2014

Teaching Assistant, volunteer, UCLA Extension, MSW Technologies Class

Assisting with coordination and presentation of class project. In addition to assisting with the development of a curriculum for MSW as a College level field of study. My metaphor for the project is like the change of “Computer Science” to “Information Technology”

2011-2014

Student UCLA Extension, Seeking Certification is Municipal Solid Waste Management (MSW)

Elective Class, “Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Design” (LEED)

2013

Co-authored study of the sources of Dioxin(s) and Furan(s), the major persistent organic pollutants (POP) produced by as undesirable products of MSW processing. My conclusion is that kinetic, thermodynamic and microbial processes produce methane, carbon dioxide and POPs as MSW becomes inert. In a landfill measurable pollutants are produced 50-100 years because AD and composting are uncontrolled, with separating waste streams and treatment with controlled Anaerobic digestion(AD) and composting of AD output, pollutants are produced in 25-50 days. Capture and destruction of POPs is possible in a 50 day time frame, but not possible in a 100 year time frame.

2013-2014

Developed recycling process for metalized BoPET plastic, economic breakeven was not achieved

Plastic PET is recycled worldwide on an industrial scale. BoPET is chemically the same as PET but can’t be processed in the same way because of different physical properties. For PET water bottles recycled to Water Bottles the plastic is chipped into 1-2 cm pieces, BoPET wears out the chipper blades because it is harder. For PET to fabric, material is forced through dies to form strands to be woven into cloth. The dies fail and force applied to push BoPET through the die is so great economics of the system are no longer viable. The metal, usually aluminum, make recovery of PET no cost effective and the PET makes recovery of the Aluminum not cost effective.

2011-2014

Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) development

I came to realize that Electrical Engineers and Mechanical Engineers are worth the pay rate. My plan for a Direct Current (DC) only computer room powered by wind energy, solar panels and hydrogen fuel cells was not achievable with my current expertise.

2006-2008

Designed skid mounted fuel ethanol facility, a system small enough to produce fuel and livestock feed for a family farm was not large enough to support the labor required to run.
