Director Application Development – Information Technology Software Engineering

Currently serving as the Director of Application Development in the Walmart Technology Applications Development Engineering organization. My organization designs large scale applications and architectural solutions that are used to enhance our customers experience. These applications consolidate the companies Big Data analytics, Algorithms, and global information sources that enables company to track and predict consumer buying and spending patterns. This in turn allows to provide lower cost and better products to our online and in store customers. In my organization, I have 45 application development engineers that and 35 offshore developers. This resulted in 78% increase of customer experience satisfaction over the past two years.

My organization has increased application stability, security and corporate compliance by 89% with company standards and practices worldwide. This has allowed for security attack threat to be minimized by 223% across all applications both online and internal. My team received Innovation project and solution of the year award in 2016.

My organization develops applications that is brings new lower cost solutions which enables Walmart to save money and offer customers a better service offering at a lower cost. Which gives Walmart a large competitive edge over its competitors. That has reduced overall overhead cost by $220 million dollars over the last three years.

I lead the development and the adoption of Open Source standards that were implemented worldwide into a Cloud environment. Which resulted in 45% reduction of operating expenses across all corporate divisions. Director – IT Application Development

Served as the Director of Applications Development for Application engineering, Security, Network, Database, Capacity and Storage Engineering. My staff consisted of 45+ individuals and was responsible for the design and build out of all application development components across the enterprise. This included the detailed application engineering designs, requirements definition delivery, the engineering assessments and the final provisioning of the infrastructure across all the regional data centers. My organiztion developed a very consistent delivery methodology process that reduced time to delivery and labor cost by 67% which resulted in a 48% reduction in total project/product delivery cost.

Served as executive leader for the Application Stability program that consisted of upgrading 200 + applications code and infrastructure. This $25 million-dollar annual program uplifted legacy infrastructure and code to state of the art technologies. Which includes upgrading the middleware and database components to Oracle Weblogic 10.3.x, WebMethods 7.x, Apache 2.2.x, Tomcat 6.x and IBM DB2 9.7, Sybase 15.x, Oracle 11g R2,MS SQL Server 2008 R2, IBM Infosphere Datastage ETL and PowerCenter Informatica ETL.

Lead the effort to build out and renovate the firm’s Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW). This Data Warehouse is the 3rd largest repository of PPI data stored in the United States. This program required the uplift of the infrastructure to support the enormous amount of increased traffic during the financial close out periods and annual growth.

Championed a server virtualizing development effort to transform and to reduce server costs/data center space. I successfully migrated over 800 physical servers to virtual VMware hosts. This effort provided large cost savings, decreased provisioning time and built standard automated builds. This effort saved the firm over $3 million dollars annually in reduced maintenance and server costs.

Successfully delivered the companies first cloud computing presence that enabled our portal application to hosted and managed in the cloud environment in an offsite remote data center. This effort reduced the infrastructure foot print internally and reduced operating cost by $1.8 million dollars annually.

Nationwide Insurance Columbus, OH, 2001 – 2010

Director - IT Project Management

Directed full-lifecycle portfolio/program/project management capabilities for Information Technology projects across the corporate enterprise. Responsible for implementing/managing strategic planning, business case development, project/program definition, forecasting, work plans, schedules, resource management and cost/benefit analysis. Established strategic partnerships/joint ventures and worked collaboratively with lines of business, architecture, engineering, operations, finance and all operating divisions to determine portfolio delivery meets the Corporate IT strategies. This work was used to create an effective delivery mechanism to meet the corporate strategic goals. I directed and managed a team that consisted of 35-50 project managers and 300+ project staff. I reported directly to the VP of Project Management.

Directed the successful application development design and the roll out of the of the Nationiwde.com internet presence. This internet portal was the company’s main source for new and existing customers. This gave the customers the ability to file claims, service their accounts and purchase or change current policies. This was a major corporate achievement and gave the company and the competitive edge with other insurance providers.

Accountable to deliver and manage a $32 million-dollar IT infrastructure engineering project portfolio that consists of 90 – 100 projects concurrently running. Projects under my guidance showed an overall 25% increase in the project effectiveness and reduced lifecycle and 15% reduction in overall project costs over a 2-year period. This project portfolio has increased the IT business value and saved the enterprise $5.6 million in project efficiencies.

Successfully delivered 150 multi-million dollar projects over a 2-year period – which resulted in achieving immediate and positive impact to the IT Infrastructure Strategy. Which has enabled Nationwide to service our customers more consistently, reduce our overall IT expenses, increase our IT efficiencies and reduced the IT risk.

Recruited a top-performing project management team. Initiated a strategy to effectively assign the project managers to the most effective projects.

Managed a tier 3 Network support team that was responsible for troubleshooting issues across the Nationwide network, streamlined the IT governance process, reducing project costs $7.6 million by better controlling the budget and prioritizing unjustified and unreported projects. Significantly improved the overall project delivery success rate on projects from 65% to a level 95%.

Oversaw the design and the implementation of new Renovation technologies in conjunction with Corporate Real Estate renovation of the downtown head quarters complex. The implementation of these new cutting edge technologies to Nationwide allowed the company to realize a reduction IT expense by utilizing more efficient processes and enabling the Nationwide Insurance associates to be more productive. This required navigating political and technical barriers, managing the scope and interdependencies between the corporate real estate projects and completing many high visibility/high risk pieces of the program was a major accomplishment. The Columbus Renovation Restack Program successfully delivered Cisco IP Telephony, Wireless, Lab Consolidation, Managed Print and Data Network infrastructure upgrades to 43 floors and moved over 4,200 associates.

AT&T Dublin, Ohio 1999 - 2001

Held general management responsibility for a team of engineers that were responsible for new development and support on Data Center, DNS, DHCP, Proxy, Web, Active Directory Servers and Virus detection servers.
