ACHIEVEMENTS:

Owner and manager of AWS and SoftLayer Enterprise accounts (root keys) for Sabre. Created an account creation process.

Designed and prototyped using Puppet the Sabre cloud migration strategy. Solicited input from multiple groups and used industry best practices, along with AWS guidelines, and CSA standards to write the original two guidelines for Sabre’s usage of Amazon Web Services: “Sabre AWS VPC usage and Naming Conventions” and the “Sabre AWS and IAM Guidelines.”

Java – Wrote a how-to guide on migrating from Java 1.6 to Java 1.7 for Sabre Enterprise. Lead technical support for Java SOX compliance required for Sabre to become a publicly traded company. Lead Engineer for the performance of a Java product at Motorola that manage WiMAX CPEs.

Process – Developed a modified FEMA process that was adopted by the multiple groups at Sabre. The process used historical data from multiple sources, including customer feedback to identify and prioritize corrective actions for various enterprise products, systems, and processes. This new process helped align the various stakeholders such as the business and sales teams, development, and operations. This process allowed the Systems Engineering and Enterprise Operations teams to see the chargebacks for each system as well as the customer priority scores.

Performed an in-depth security audit of Amazon’s Web Services with Amazon’s Security Engineers.

Made changes to multiple processes to incorporate best practices from various standards (ITIL, ISO, and ANSI) and CSA and Gartner recommended best practices.

Introduced STIG tools, processes, and guidelines to the corporation.

Designed and implemented an enterprise infrastructure monitoring and alerting system. Provided feedback to vendors on changes that would facilitate the company’s use cases, e.g. API changes for VictorOps and Viavi’s GigaStor.

Identified instances where Sabre’s telecommunications providers did not meet the Service Level Agreements and Sabre was able to request refund payments.

Oversight overall Airline Operation systems in production. Introduced some of the Design for Six Sigma processes which allowed the Engineering team to catch design issues at project inception instead of in production.

Reviewed Sabre systems for capacity and stability. Discovered multiple significant design issues and held meetings to include impacted teams to create an optimal solution.

Member of the System Engineering team that provided on-call support as the last level of escalation for all of Sabre’s systems in production.

Created a scalable, standard’s based enterprise process for software patching and version control.

Helped design and prototype an enterprise ITSM solution using ServiceNow. The implementation was used to manage over 10,000 RHEL servers. This project also included virtualization changes in development and testing environments in order to make the production and development environments as similar as possible.

Broke down multiple company silos. Example: requested access to corporate analytics system to compare customer reported issues with the operations team’s issues list. This data was used to set priorities based on customer value, revenue generation, and loss prevention. One of the identified items saved over $300,000/month.

Helped create an automated intrusion detection system that required dissecting a proprietary networking protocol communicating with an IBM z/OS based mainframe.

Selected by Sabre Vice-President to be the technical representative for the SOX compliance team as part of Sabre’s preparation to become a publicly traded company. This project required software library and other architectural changes to multiple Sabre systems.

Wrote prototype software on an Atmel embedded controller for a local Dallas automotive brake manufacturing company that wanted to start using electronic breaking solutions. The new software breaking system had significantly higher performance and could react quickly to multiple problem situations.

Greenbelt project resulted in improved AP software download times from over two weeks to 3.4 hours for 2K base stations. 98.99% reduction.

Designed and implemented a prototype Law Enforcement Monitor (CALEA). Developed method for real-time packet tracking, verification, and loss detection. Achieved 80,000 packets per second on a single V.240 Solaris workstation (required a kernel patch from Sun Microsystems as the kernel was allocating too much memory for the small voice packets) and was able to identify all lost or delayed packets.

DLAC Loader - Saved over $500,000 by finding alternate solutions and methods for meeting project requirements. This change required convincing multiple teams to switch to using unchannelized T1s.

Installed and supported the first Voice Signaling Gateway (provides IP-based dispatch to Nextel subscribers) in the Nextel system.

The owner of one issued Patent for Motorola’s Fixed Wireless Terminal.

One of four engineers that developed world’s first analog fax Fixed Wireless Terminal. Required DSP, and embedded programming.

Solved a difficult fire hazard software bug that worked around missing hardware components for the telephone ringer circuitry in Motorola StarTAC mobile phone.

Created web-based application platform for photographic album creation: www.interactalbums.com.

Created tool to create iPhone apps, predating Apple’s iBooks’ Author tool: www.glimmerapps.com.

Built, installed, and trained users on a high-speed FTP client and server for large (~10GB) transatlantic file transfers. Achieved 10x transfer bandwidth compared to standard FTP.

Created algorithm to test and determine the best method for paying off a variety of consumer debt: www.debtrolloff.com. Also, managed the development and roll-out of the website.

Developed novel scoring methodology using Health Insurance company’s data to create non-linear mathematical models that helped my client, Health Benefits America, win multi-million dollar contracts with multiple Fortune 500 corporations.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Enterprise Governance team member. The goal was to maximize re-use, avoid performance issues, communicate technology changes, and review the product ideas.

Enterprise Cloud working group team member. Helped create cloud working group by finding employees with AWS experience and reviewed designs and suggestions from Sabre’s architecture teams. Compiled best ideas and reviewed with Sabre network and application security teams and created original Sabre AWS cloud strategy documents.

Responsible for all ‘Airline Solutions’ systems, about 50 airlines. Provided architecture and performance reviews, and approval for all changes to systems in production, requiring a wide range of support from recommending hardware and platform changes to reviewing software implementations to ensure resilience to common failure scenarios.

Provided oversight for on-call support for all Sabre systems. One example was preventing a core system from having to upgrade their operating system as part of the original outage mitigation recommendation. Suggested that the memory controller on the blade server card could be malfunctioning and to swap the blade with a new blade but reuse the hard drive from the failing system. The team manager came directly over after the incident to show appreciation as he knew the latest Linux OS had compatibility issues with his system and was not in agreement with the prevailing consensus.

System Engineering team’s network and software security engineer. Received requests from many teams for support. One example, was our airline inventory team needing to keep another airline’s product operational but did not know why it quit working every couple hours. Gave mentoring on how to debug TCP network states and was able to show that all the ephemeral ports were all in use (TCP TIME_WAIT state) and also introduced the team to the new Windows Performance Toolkit.

Security – Performed PCI/DSS audits and facilitated proper performance testing while maintaining PCI/DSS compliance. In some cases, this required PCI data masking and PII data obfuscation.

Networking – Specified performance tuning configuration changes for the enterprise production F5 load balancers. Helped product teams with HTTP workload optimization and network issues. One example was a Chrome security upgrade in 2015 that detected a renegotiated HTTPS session and would blank the client’s web browser screens. The fix was to have the F5 RedirectRewrite enabled for non-HTTPS redirects.

New technology champion - Containers, KVM, and was the Docker and container champion. Reviewed Gartner and multiple best practice documents on performance, security, and deployment options. Also met with the Intel Storage team from Folsom CA to discuss maximizing the usage of PCIe NVMe storage devices. Created a working virtualized solution using the Skylake PCIe NVMe M.2 storage. Sponsored and facilitated MongoDB usage in Sabre
