Deanna Craig, SM, MT (ASCP)
Helping to introduce faster molecular approaches to the microbiology laboratory
1. Perform and maintain all molecular assays QC documentation, and troubleshoot all aspects of assays when needed. Enter all patient and QC data into LIS system.
2. Perform and write up validations, laboratory procedures, and IQCPs on the molecular assays introduced into the lab, including Cepheid GeneXpert Infinity Sytem (MRSA, C. diff, FII/FVL, EV, and MTBR), BioFire FilmArray (Respiratory Pathogens, Gastrointestinal, and Meningitis Panels), T2 Biosystems T2 Candida Panel, Nanospehere’s Verigene System (Gram Positive and Gram Negative Bacterial Panels), and BioMerieux’s resin filled blood culture bottles.
3. Perform routine microbiology and molecular assays: All the ones stated above, Abbott’s M2000 (HIV viral load and CT/NG), specimen plating, and slide reading.
Laboratory Assistant/ Associate
March 2003 to Oct. 2014
Augusta University (3 different labs)
Augusta, GA
I.Dr. Ravindra Kolhe, MD, PhD
Viral & Genetic Clinical Testing in the Georgia Esoteric and Molecular Laboratory, LLC (clinical research lab)
1. Maintain all QC records and perform troubleshooting when necessary. Enter all patient and QC data into LIS system.
2. HIV-1 & HCV quantitative viral load RT PCR analysis using Roche’s COBAS Ampliprep/Taqman. CMV quantitative viral load real time analysis using Roche’s Light Cycler and Bio-Rad for gel fragmentation analysis.
3. Sequencing: HIV-1 drug resistance & cystic fibrosis mutation analysis using Applied Biosystem’s 3100 Genetic Analyzer.
.
II.Dr. Yehia Daaka, PhD
Role of G-protein coupled receptors in cancer progression. (academic research)
1. Injection of mouse bladders with E. coli and NOS inhibitors to find the role of Dynamin II, a GTPase involved in endocytosis, and eNOS, an endothelial nitric oxide synthase, in urinary tract infections. The bladders were prepared for further studies such as agar growth colony count,HPLC, immunofluorescence, and immunorhistochemistry.
2. To discover a correlation between Rap1GAP, a RAP1 GTPase activating protein, and prostaglandin E Receptor 4 (EP4) in the metastatic potential of kidney cancer. Many in vitro and in vivo experiments were performed to achieve this goal, such as cell transfections, cell invasions using transwell plates, cAMP assay, Flow Cytometry, cell proliferation assay, and western blotting.
3. Maintenance of multiple cell lines to facilitate in vitro experiments performed by all lab personnel.
III.Dr. Stephen Peiper, MD
Role of CXCR4 & CCR5 in breast cancer metastasis and HIV entry into cells (academic research)
1. GST purification of different domains of the G protein coupled receptor CXCR4 to identify target binding proteins using a GST pulldown assays, cell migration assays, flow cytometry analysis, calcium flux, GTP binding.
2. Using mouse models to help understand the involvement of CXCR4 and CCR5 in breast cancer metastasis.
3. Preservation of lab aesthetics with focus on cleanliness, organization, and maintenance of stock chemicals and reagents
