Career Highlights

Promoted to lead Communication and Navigation engineer after 2.8 years at the F-16 flight test squadron. Became responsible for all Communication and Navigation section products and the engineers within that section. The leadership responsibility has followed me to the F-35 and Global Hawk flight test squadrons.

Trained 30+ engineers in all aspects of flight testing the systems that fall under my responsibility including: test planning, test execution, data collection, data analysis, and test reporting.

Developed a suite of over 40 Graphical User Interface based MATLAB analysis tools capable of analyzing, plotting, archiving, and extracting detailed system performance statistics from aircraft data. This tool suite is currently being utilized by numerous test squadrons within the Air Force Test Center community.

Independently developed a comprehensive test plan for CSUN’s first CubeSat project which was the basis of my Master’s thesis (CSUNSat1 System Test Plan).

Work Experience

Edwards Air Force Base Electronics Engineer 12/2004 – 10/2016

Engineering roles at Edwards included: Global Hawk lead avionics engineer, F-35 lead CNI engineer, F-16 lead CNI engineer, F-16 discipline engineer.

Engineering responsibilities included: Ensuring integrity and technical suitability of all F-16, F-35, and RQ-4 CNI test plans, reports, and analysis routines. Prepared, organized, and conducted flight tests in mission control rooms.

Responsible for generating test plans, executing ground and flight tests, analyzing ground and flight test results, and generating test reports for various military systems including: GPS, Navigation, Inertial, Communication, Identification, Ground Collision Avoidance, and Interoperability.

Responsible for troubleshooting aircraft electronic equipment including: aircraft hardware, aircraft hardware interfaces, and aircraft electronic equipment firmware.

Management responsibilities included: Tracking program test execution and analysis status; reporting to senior leadership, customers, and contractors ensuring each were aware of current program execution status and deficiencies. Mentored 30+ engineers in all aspects of flight testing: planning, provisioning, execution, data analysis, and reporting.

Trained discipline engineers to conduct flight test missions in control room, extremely stressful and time critical environment.

Led the multi-million dollar SASSM EGI integration and qualification testing effort for the F-16 fighter. Discovered numerous issues with the system during flight testing and detailed analysis of the resulting test data. Aided contractors in understanding the complex issues through more than 10 iterations of flight builds resulting in a superior product for the US Government.

Led the multi-million dollar ARC-210 (digital radio), SLOS (secure line of sight), and BLOS (beyond line of sight) satellite communication integration and qualification testing efforts for the F-16 fighter. Some of these UON (urgent operational need) programs were planned, executed, analyzed, and reported within weeks providing the US warfighter with urgently needed capabilities and ensuring that taxpayer dollars were spent expeditiously.

Led the flight testing effort for the F-35 GPS and Navigation systems. Developed testing strategies and analysis routines for the cutting edge GPS and Navigation systems.

Led the flight testing effort for the F-35 Communication system. I developed new testing techniques and analysis routines to determine the true performance of the as built communication system. My efforts led to the Government acceptance of the communication system.

Led the planning, execution, and analysis of the F-35 MGCAS (manual ground collision avoidance system). I was able to lead my team through the accomplishment of over 200 MGCAS test points accompanied with analysis and reporting in a matter of months leading to the early incorporation of MGCAS into the F-35 aircraft.

Evolving Resources, Inc. Engineer I 6/2004 – 12/2004

Created supporting documentation including; installation design plans, maintenance plans, cut-in plans, acceptance test plans, and as built drawings for microwave tower installations on and around Edwards Air Force Base.

Managed tower crews for Air Force microwave communication systems installations. Ensuring towers, antennas, radios, solar arrays, battery systems, and charge controllers were installed per specifications. All communication systems were installed on time and within budget.

Took on additional duties supporting government engineers as needed. Supervised installations and modifications at additional remote sites
