Experience
Summer 2012-Current Supervisor of Carpentry at Warren Wilson College
Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 87 buildings Academic, Administrative and Residence Halls. Also numerous farm and other structures. This is performed with a crew of up to 20 students of varying ages. Some novices some with great carpentry skills to start. All leaving the College with an education in building maintenance, repairs and a general knowledge of all aspects of construction. From roofing to foundation repairs and everything in between. We have built from new and repaired several structures on our farm and garden. Anything from a chicken coop to a 3000 square foot barn. We also work with several volunteers on a weekly basis who help with all aspects of our daily tasks. Coordination and supervision of sub-contractors on projects that are to large or we are not equipped to perform.
Fall 2011 Wilson Residence, exterior and potter's shed
Large restoration of exterior. Siding repair, roof reconstruction, exterior painting and gutter installation. Coordinated with subcontractors and apprentice to complete project on time and within budgetary parameters. Manufactured log cabin studio for potter's shed, complete with plumbing and recycled windows for natural lighting. Scope of project included plot layout, excavation and grading, foundation, concrete and masonry, framing, drywall, tile setting, plumbing, flooring, window and door casework, interior and exterior trim, and roofing.
Winter 2010-2011 Soled Residence, trim carpentry
Constructed 5000 s.f custom trim job with fir lumber and handcrafted timber-framed staircase with custom handrail. Coordinated all activities of subcontractors and apprentice during this 4-month project.
Summer 2010 Branch Creek Construction project, Deltec
Constructed 2000 s.f. deltec home and collaborated with engineer and general contractor on all aspects of the project.
Summer 2010 Flemming Residence, deck
Designed and manufactured a 336 s.f. multi-tiered deck for a private residence. Used artistic brainstorming and collaboration with customer to create a one-of-a-kind addition to residence while staying within budgetary parameters.
Spring 2010 Stinson Residence, custom entryway
Removed garage door gym entryway and replaced with custom milled mahogany side lights and mahogany French doors. Custom fluted double pane glazing with low-e.
Spring 2009 Kjellquist Residence, renovation. Built new roof over old roof of existing kitchen, then crafted new kitchen with vaulted ceilings, while keeping existing kitchen functional. Repainted exterior.
2006-2007 BioWheels Asheville, commercial job
Acted as working supervisor for entire project. Scope of project included plot layout, excavation and grading, foundation, concrete and masonry, framing, drywall, plumbing, flooring, window and door casework, and roofing.
2001-2005 Thompson and Rhodes Builders, Superintendent
Constructed high end custom single family homes, reconstructions, additions, remodeling, and commercial improvements throughout greater Asheville. Coordinated as Lead Carpenter all activities of subcontractors and company personnel as well as managing staff. Scheduled and supervised all inspections, permitting and zoning. Enforced all international building codes and OSHA regulations.
