Mainframe Application Programmer

Managed the design, development, testing and implementation of Claimfacts client requests for all groups. Process claims for insured employees of third-party companies and providers of medical, dental services, using both online and batch processes. Work with Business Analysts to research and identify best solution, estimate time and cost, and develop or enhance application through to implementation.

• Produce hundreds of thousands of EOBs and accompanying letters per month. Changes to this system

where mainly batch COBOL programs and JCL. The changes were all client related enhancements to the

Claimfacts claim application. The changes that were made hade to do with how the EOB’s were being

created and how the external vendor was to receive them.

• Made changes to the provider billing system to automate processes like personal data, billing information.

This was all accomplished by changes in CICS and batch COBOL programs. Adding new screens,

modifying COBOL and CICS programs and JCL.

* Maintained on-line and batch application with any client type changes. This was done using both CICS and

COBOL. This could be for changes to the core batch system, to the external reporting application, to

changes to the on-line application screens and programs.

* Key resource when issues arose. Researched, communicated, fixed and implemented correction.

Manage the design, development, testing and implementation of Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) forms nationwide. Process claims for insured employees of third-party companies and providers of medical, dental, and vision services, using both online and batch processes. Work with Business Analysts to research and identify best solution, estimate time and cost, and develop or enhance application through to implementation.

Produce hundreds of thousands of EOBs and accompanying letters per month. Work with application was

done using COBOL and JCL. Changes to the application were from client related enhancements.

Saved labor and CPU time and improved accuracy of data by using CICS to replace manual tasks with automated online process. Created new CICS screens and COBOL programs to replace control cards processing. This helped in being able to make changes on the fly.

Maintained COBOL programs that used DB2/SQL. This involved making minor changes to SQL statements

and COBOL program code. DB2/SQL knowledge is not at an expertise level but understanding of SQL and

how the statements work is there.
