LAN Administrator and IT Support

Performed any and all IT services for Virginia-based EIT Northeast branch of 85 employees, including everything from laying fiber optics, Ethernet and wireless devices, to helping users with their PC, laptop, smartphone issues. EIT is a 250 employee company with 4 sites in Virginia, one site here in Salem. They manufacture electronic devices for numerous companies.

Maintained, repaired and replaced any of the computer systems for the manufacturing floor equipment, which ranged from old 486 CPU’s running DOS 6.2 to 8-Core i7’s running Windows 7 64 bit Pro. Setup several PC’s with Win7 XP Mode. Many of these PCs are customized to their environment, one was purchased for $12,000 as the PC that runs a specialized Press-Fit machine.

Helped maintain, replace, install and troubleshoot several receiving and shipping label printers for both FedEx and UPS, and installed and maintained and troubleshot FedEx and UPS Worldship software.

Troubleshot numerous networking issues for Salem and for communications back to corporate in Virginia, on three different systems, 7 combined T1 lines at a miserable 9 Mbps, transitioning to a new Fiber Optic system with 2 Feeds of over 100 Mbps each. Comcast cable was available only as an emergency backup . As you can see, I did not design this system!

Organized the whole Server room and network, labeling all wiring, creating Visio Network Diagrams and spreadsheets of network equipment, including approximately 50 PCs, 25 laptops, 5 switches, patch panels, routers, servers, door security panel, time clock feed, 2 TV feeds, and backup hardware.

Performed daily incremental and weekly full backups on 30 rotational hard drives, 4 - 2 TB drives for Mon-Thurs daily incrementals and 26 – 4TB drives for the 52 weeks of Friday Full backups. Another set of drives was for Year-End backups and Employee “Exit” data, used for backing up all users data as they left the company.

PC hardware, OS and software builds of all types. PC and laptop hardware troubleshooting and repairs. Examples: Replaced laptop hinges, CPU fan, keyboard and display panel. Replaced All-In-One Dell PC display panel, which was damaged in shipping.

Helped all users with numerous issues including hardware failures and software issues, especially with MS Office 2010 and 2013 with MS Outlook. Also, numerous printer, print server and peripheral issues solved.

Onsite Network Technician

Hired as their only onsite network technician for both small businesses and residential customers.

Also diagnosed and repaired hundreds of PC’s and laptops with a very wide range of hardware, OS and software issues.

Provided services for several onsite customers with SBS 2003 and 2008 and also non-server sharing networks with XP, Vista and Win7, most with RAID 1, 5 or 10. Several RAID reconfigurations and rebuilds.

Law firm network re-design and implementation, after disgruntled IT tech had left the firm. SBS 2008 server crashed and client didn’t want the unneeded and unreliable server anymore. Converted their Exchange-based mail to local PST-based Outlook with a highly secure POP3 Email provider, setup apps onto XP-based “server”, including: SQL, Amicus Attorney with Billing Add-On, Best Case bankruptcy, Family Law software and user/company shares. Setup triple-firewalled Remote Desktop access to owner’s desktop using reconfigured RDP port. Setup IR3030 Xerox AIO for full functionality to all desktops. Setup cloud-based Carbonite backup for all desktops.

Setup complete Win7 Pro network for 7 PC/laptop nodes and 2 network printers, including firewall settings, new switch, 4 UPS’s, network workstation for company data, QuickBooks and data backup setup with EHD.

QuickBooks Multi-user Network setup with five nodes – with all proper firewall ports manually adjusted to allow proper QuickBooks communication between all nodes. All users provided proper QuickBooks permissions.

Network Engineer and Lead Technician

Design, implementation and on-going support for a five-site VPN, three W2K3 server domain, with 125 AD users on laptops and PC’s, with six total servers, and SnapGear SPI VPN firewall/routers.

Remote Support using Zenith Infotech SAAZ, to provide network and server support.

Two site VPN setup, 20 (10 new) nodes without server, 2 NAS boxes, one for each site for user data and email backup.

Dozens of small business clients (2-20 nodes) supported locally and remotely, with server installations, rebuilds and cleanups, along with PC and laptop rebuilds and cleanups.

Hundreds of residential clients, many with home networks and multiple PC/Laptop issues, including hardware, software, driver, printer, EHD, router, wireless, modem and switch problems.
