Work Experience
Dimensiondata (Formerly Opsource Inc.)
Ashburn, VA October 2005 to present
My position at Dimensiondata (Opsource) has evolved considerably since I started.
I started as a Systems Engineer I have been responsible for the day today care of multiple client environments. Opsource is a software as a service company and our clients have segregated networks within our shared infrastructure. I have supported mixed Windows/Linux (mainly Windows) environments that were focused on delivering applications to web users. I have been the lead engineer on several consolidation and upgrade projects during my time at Opsource. One project consolidated systems that we had spread out over 3 datacenters into our primary datacenter using VMware.
Over the years I evolved into our Cloud Business Units Virtualization architect. This started to change in 2008, when I became a dedicated Virtualization Engineer and was put in charge of our Managed hosting VMware platforms. This platform started off with 8 Dual CPU hosts and 32GB Ram in 1 datacenter Running ESX 3.5.1. I was responsible for setting the VM standard configurations, creating templates, provisioning customer VMs, troubleshooting any issues and maintaining the environment and upgrades. This experience helped me learn PowerCLI, I used that to automate the deployment of new VMs and to create capacity reports that were used to justify new capacity adds and determine what configurations out data centers could support.
In 2009 I helped design and implement our first step into the Cloud Service provider business. I worked as part of a team with Network engineers and Developers. I helped layout the ground work for the Opsource Cloud infrastructure. This launched to the public in Oct 2009, I continued to manage, maintain both the Managed hosting platforms and the Cloud Platforms. As the Cloud business continued to expand I was made a Team lead and was responsible for hiring new engineers that directly reported to me. We were responsible for all the support and maintenance of the platform, support of the customers and helping develop new features.
Dimension Data Purchased Opsource in 2011 and formed the Cloud Business Unit
In 2014 I had a team of 8 engineers supporting 25 datacenters around the world. We had approximately 300 Esx hosts and 25,000 VMs under management/support. To help us continue to expand the team was split into 2 groups, Operations and Product Engineering. I stayed with the product engineering group and was able to keep a team of 3.
As the Product Engineering Virtualization team lead, I am responsible for new upgrades and products related to Virtualization (VMware specifically) We create the testing Parameters, Designs and implementation documentation for all new upgrades, products and features we create for our Cloud Platform product.
Pace Systems
Naperville, IL September 2004 to October 2005
As the Senior Systems Engineer I am currently responsible for all the internal IT operations as well as the planning, management and implementation of all client related project. Internally I have been given the task of standardizing all of our in-house and client documentation. To aid in the task of document change management we have implemented Microsoft Share Point services. I have also planned and implemented upgrades from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 AD upgrades for both our own internal needs and external client requirements.
Currently my focus is on Citrix Metaframe Presentation server. This is the primary platform for most of my clients as well as our internal environment. The ease of use and rapid ability to deploy applications to a large number of users is very appealing to most of our clients.
RapidApp
Chicago, Illinois July 2003 to September 2004

Work extensively with Windows 2000/2003, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office Suite, Active Directory and proprietary applications. I was responsible for network installations/ implementations, upgrades, security/ disaster recovery, desktop rollouts, documentation and training.
Cable & Wireless June 1996 to December 2002
Woodridge, Illinois (Formerly Exodus, Cohesive and Forte)
As a Systems Engineer, worked with customers and Project Managers to design and implement server and network infrastructure for web sites. Manage several accounts both inside and outside Cable & Wireless’ data centers.
Major Projects
• Network Administrator: Administration and engineering of a large B2B website serving the automotive industry. I worked with a team that was responsible for over of 100 servers running in a Windows 2000/ NT environment and about 100 running a Sun Solaris OS. We performed a large part of the engineering on this system linking several locations worldwide. Visio was used extensively to document the clients network. I was assigned the task of creating a “run book” for internal network operations center, a reference book on the new, upgraded network. Assured security of the network servers. Traveled extensively to remote locations worldwide.
• Corporate e-mail expansion: Created a new Exchange site in the existing Company organization for the purpose of enabling users to send and receive e-mail from networks external to our company. For Security reasons, we enabled SSL on POP3, IMAP4 and the ASP version of Outlook, Outlook Web Access (OWA). A global address book was added via LDAP.
• Created and implemented a migration plan to move from Netscape Messaging server to Microsoft Exchange. This was implemented worldwide and included a desktop client upgrade to MS Outlook.
• Designed and built a multi-server Terminal Server/Metaframe environment with MS Exchange for e-mail delivery.
