Pediatric Neurosurgery

Pediatric Nurse Practitioner

Provide acute care to children hospitalized with neurosurgical conditions throughout the pediatric wards, intermediate care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit and emergency department. This care includes: complete history and physicals, daily rounds, providing consultations on new and existing patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, performing invasive procedures, consulting other healthcare providers, medical decision making, and admitting and discharging patients from the hospital.

Perform procedures including: shunt taps, re-programming of implanted medical devices, removal of drains, and assisting in the operating room.

Manage patients in the outpatient setting during clinic visits with and without a physician. Triage phone calls from patients’ families and other healthcare providers.

Creation of a bimonthly Journal Club

Manage a Quality Assurance program with a database to track all invasive procedures, outcome measures and complications. The findings from the quality assurance database are reviewed at bimonthly Mortality and Morbidity meetings.

Night and weekend call.
