Experien Health Sciences, Inc. 2013 - present

Scientific Consultant (for industry clients)

Review toxicological study data to determine UN GHS classification of chemical substances for a global leader in the distribution of chemicals and plastics. This client distributes over 27,000 products and has partnered with over 1,300 world-class chemical suppliers.

Experienced in reviewing EU REACH dossiers in the IUCLID 5 format.

Trained in the authoring of Safety Data Sheets according to UN GHS criteria for substances and mixtures.

Familiar with OECD Guidelines for the health effects, testing of chemicals, and the basic data requirements associated with registration / notification of new chemical substances under EU REACH, Canada NSN, and US TSCA PMN regulations.

Black Silver Development, Inc. 2011 - 2013

Scientific Consultant (for industry clients)

Conducted toxicological and scientific reviews of study data for the composition of scientific reports and manuals.

Composed and edited financial spreadsheets, general correspondence, direct mailings, scientific reports, manuals, and other documents.

Developed and maintained customer relationships through lead follow-up and client outreach programs. University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston MD Anderson Cancer Center (Houston, TX) 2008 – 2011 Graduate Research Assistant (laboratory of Dr. Zhengxin Wang)

Discovered that the androgen receptor (AR) cofactor p44/WDR77 can regulate astrogliosis (a major pathology in aging-related neurodegenerative disorders) by down regulating the expression of a cell cycle regulator, and the repression of the activation of the canonical nuclear factor kappa B (NF- B) pathway.

Using immunohistochemistry analysis of cell cycle and inflammatory pathways, demonstrated the molecular mechanism of the AR cofactor’s role in astrogliosis, which lead to a publication.

Developed stable astrocyte cell lines (with and without the p44/WDR77 gene), still in use in the field today, from primary mouse astrocytes for molecular analysis of astrocyte activation, and future in vivo carcinogenic analyses.

Mentored high school students, undergraduates, and a visiting foreign graduate student during execution of their assigned projects.

University of Texas Dental Branch (Houston, TX) 2005 – 2008 Graduate Research Assistant (laboratory of Dr. John Klein)

Discovered an in-frame, novel, immune-derived thyroid-stimulating hormone beta (TSHβ) splice variant utilizing 5' rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) of mouse bone marrow (BM) cells, which lead to a publication, a patent application, and a new line of research.

Generated and isolated recombinant splice variant TSHβ protein to illustrate its ability to elicit a cAMP response from FRTL-5 thyroid follicular cells and a mouse alveolar macrophage (AM) cell line, characterizing the first functional splice variant of TSHβ, which can contribute to the metabolic regulation during immunological stress, and offers a new perspective for understanding autoimmune thyroiditis. Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX) 2004 – 2005 Research Coordinator (laboratory of Dr. Timothy Boone and Dr. George Somogyi)

Examined pharmacologic plasticity of muscarinic, and nicotinic receptors cross-reactivity in rat bladder and urethra urothelium through the analysis of the released nitric oxide (NO), Adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP) in organ chambers.

Demonstrated a correlation between increased ATP and adenosine concentration, and the severity of interstitial cystitis through high-performance liquid chromatography of patient samples Pediatric Neurology Clinic, UT Health (Houston, TX) May – August 2002 Summer Intern

Shadowed pediatric neurologist during clinical rounds and participated in the analysis of ongoing clinical research. EXPERIMENTAL APPROACHES
