PowerToFly, Washington, DC

Director of Technical Development April 2016–- November 2016

PowerToFly is the fastest growing platform for women in technology. As Director, my work spans many parts of the business. From the high level strategic building of a learning community to the daily tactical work with enterprise level clients and women in technology. Utilizing 20+ years of experience in the IT sector to help grow the business and drive sales and increase revenue by leveraging my worldwide network. Working with clients to understand their technical needs then translating those requirements into diversity minded goals. Through relationship building, I partner closely with clients to strategize the best way to find the most qualified women for their organizations. Altering job descriptions to be more inclusive to women, highlighting the most enticing benefits, as well as the use of social networks are included in the plan. My work includes deeply understanding the cultural nature of the organization and the demographics of the current team because those are just as important as understanding the technical requirements. In addition, to ensure client needs are met I work closely with women in technology. By performing code reviews and grading and developing HackerRank tests across all tech stacks; including frontend, backend, fullstack, and mobile I assess skill sets for the women on the platform. I perform a thorough GitHub repository review when needed. Utilizing my vast technical background, I vet candidates to measure levels of skill across all disciplines including; development, quality assurance, project/program management, system administration, cloud technologies and IT management roles including mid- and senior level executives. Lastly, as part of building a learning community, I design, plan, and deliver workshops for women in tech. I also coach women on interviews, perform live coding sessions and provide career coaching. Through the engagement with women around the world I have contributed directly to the growth of the International PowerToFly community.

NORC, Bethesda, Maryland

IT Manager, Director of IT November 2010–- May 2016

First as the IT Manager of the Bethesda ITPS team then as IT Director, serving as a primary point of contact for internal NORC research partners and external NORC clients. Managing a team of IT resources using an innovative approach, combined with project management knowledge, helps to determine and implement best practice approaches and solutions for clients. Lead and participated actively in the implementation of test automation using QTP. Lead architectural reviews of technology solutions to ensure the best fit for the customer. Was instrumental in implementing standardized build practices including build verification tests (BVT). Actively project managed at least 7 projects at once, at most 21 projects. Projects were in all stages from proposal stage to maintenance phase. Projects within the various programs ranged in budgets and timelines (6 months to 10 years). The largest projects were multi-million dollar budgets. There is one goal that is of upmost importance when delivering IT solutions and that is: "What is best for the end user?" From that, the Bethesda ITPS team can form a basis to measure achievable results to reach the highest ROI for each and every client project.

Senior Project Manager March 2008–- September 2010

Built a Project Management Office (PMO), including processes for vendor management, testing, risk management & risk mitigation, decision making, and change requests. Successfully managed a multi-million dollar Policy and Claims Administration System replacement project. Drove the management of multiple small, medium, and complex projects simultaneously. Managed enterprise-wide CRM SalesLogix project including upgrades, and change requests. Managed CRM integration with larger Policy and Claims Administration System replacement.

Developed an enterprise-wide framework including a project management template and document library. Replaced a manual paper-based change request and defect tracking process with a SharePoint solution. Successfully managed $.5m, year-long corporate website complete redesign project while managing 4 other mid-sized projects. Used the appropriate methodology to manage each project; waterfall, SCRUM/Agile, or hybrid.

Senior Site Manager January 2007–- March 2008

Owned the Forefront pre-sales websites, including project management of new product launches, content updates, web development, and incoming stakeholder requests. Frequently used my software development skills to make code changes to websites as necessary using HTML, DHTML, and XML, in Microsoft’s Content Management System (CMS). Ensured changes to Pre-sales websites met the needs of the ITPro audience by use of web analytic tools WebTrends & Web Metrix.

Technical Project Manager October 2005–- December 2006

Owned the following areas of the Marks & Spencer (M&S) enterprise-wide, $9M, web redesign project; e-mail services (Epsilon), website analytics (Omniture), Search Engine Optimization (Efficient Frontier), and graphics rendering (Scene7). Also drove the design of the site’s Store Locator as well as localization of the entire web site. Overall project was run using the SCRUM methodology. Designed the group wide Working Hours Optimization Project, a program that helped senior leadership optimize usage of offshore resources and maximize profits.

Microsoft Corporation, Redmond, Washington

January 2000–- October 2005

Program Manager – Security Business & Technology Unit

Drove the BitLocker feature as a Vista OS deliverable, including customer meetings, technical conferences, presentations, knowledge of security technologies, leading teams to dates, owning group dependencies, along with overall communications needed for project success. Worked with partners such as NSA, British Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) and hardware partners, Intel, Toshiba, Sony, and Dell to help drive TPM1.5 chip installs on manufacturing lines. Project exceeded $25M budget management.

Program Manager – Windows Embedded

Drove the componentization effort across the Windows Division. Duties included presentations to large technical audiences and upper level management, cross-group communications and collaboration, and management of a large scale project with thousands of dependencies.

Software Developer in Test – Internet Information Services (IIS)

Developed an end-to-end automated testing system in ASP.NET, C#, with a SQL backend DB. The system tracked test jobs and available clients, delegated jobs, executed tests, gathered results, generated reports, and supported web based tools for administration of the system. Owned setup testing for IIS 5.1 and 6.0 across all supported platforms including Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows Server 2000, and Windows XP SP2 in 8 different languages. Developed setup verification tools in Jscript, C#, and XML to verify proper installations of IIS components – files, system registry, and metabase configurations. Created and maintained test plans and test specs, and drove the test effort across the setup team for all major milestones and deliverables. Networking experience: Wireless LAN and LAN/WAN networking technologies and VPN.
