Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), provide the day to day (24/7) direction in support of the network infrastructure, data center operations, security, and support services for the entire organization. The user community consisting of approximately 7,000.
Coach, mentor and set performance expectations for a staff of 25 full and part time professionals (Helpdesk Manager, Network Manager, Lab Manager, Telecommunications Manager, Cabling Engineer, Network Engineers, Desktop Support Specialist, Student workers).
Introduced a number of industry best practices influenced by the ITIL framework. Examples include: Automation to track all hardware and software inventory and licensing compliance, mobile device hard drive encryption program, standard operating procedures (SOPs) structure for IT inter-departmental and organizational-wide communications, Established SLAs and setup regular reporting structure of performance against SLAs.
Consolidated support operations. The result was consistency of support services throughout the organization, extend call center hours, and was able to create a staffed second shift and weekend Tier I and Tier II presence.
Review and approve all end-point technology hardware, software and cloud service purchases in order to maintain organization standards and reduce redundancy. Maintain vendor relations and participate in all contract development and negotiations.
Currently developing a program to improve the “self-service” capabilities of our helpdesk system.
Oversee the operation of the data center. Successfully completed a server consolidation initiative that resulted in over 95% of all data center servers virtualized using VMWare. (eliminated over 120 physical Microsoft and LINUX servers). Improvements to the facility include adding a building natural gas generator, UPS, cooling upgrades and electrical improvements.
Have transitioned a number of applications to cloud services. Many with LDAP/single sign-on capabilities. Current cloud services count is 23 entities. Examples include, PeopleAdmin, Vendini, Exacttarget, Regroup, and Microsoft Office 365.
Serve as the Disaster Recovery (DR) Coordinator for entire data/voice and application infrastructure. Maintain DR master plan and conduct bi-annual testing of plan at remote site (Since 2006). This testing includes coordination with other functional units in order to help them meet their business continuity requirements. Currently evaluating DR as a service (DRaaS) and DR on-demand solutions.
Introduced and helped Influence the campus-wide acceptance and adoption of new plans, policies and procedures. For example, an IT disaster recovery plan, Risk assessment evaluation plan, computing acceptable use policy, email use policy, computer decommissioning procedure, IT services catalog, service level agreement (SLA), and an Information Technology department strategic plan (5 year).
