Career Details
2014- 2016
Field Superintendent – Kazakhstan
Once I finished up in Mexico I approached Parker Drilling and was hired for their ongoing project in Kazakhstan.
I rotated 28 x 28 and was responsible for looking after two of Parker Drillings 3000 hp rigs drilling high angle horizontal wells in western Kazakhstan for KPO oil company.
One of my rigs drilled the deepest and quickest wells in KPO field. These high angle wells were prolific producers, therefore everyone involved in these wells had to be alert at all times.
Due to the oil turn down and the fact that two of the rigs operating in Kazakhstan were shut down I was laid off in June this year.
I have had the time to work on my home place, getting a lot of jobs done that I had on hold for a long time.
Now it is time to get back to work.
2013- 2014
Finished contract in Indonesia and moved back to our home place in Bellville, Texas.
After a few weeks at home I was offered a job as rig manager in Mexico looking after a 2000 horse power Friede and Goldman Jackup that had been partially rebuilt in Galveston, Texas. It was then moved and jacked down 50 miles off the coast of Cuid de Carmen Mexico, we have been since early this year finalizing all the remaining issues preparing for a new long term contract with Pemex.
So needless to say the partial refurbishment did not actually identify all the jobs to be done.
so presently we are still in the process of finalizing the repairs / refurbishment and will soon be ready to go to work. In saying this, I will be looking for a new project once this has finished up.
2010 – Dec.- 15, 2012 - Project Manager / Rig Manager – P.T. Dimas Utama Drilling Division ( Indonesia )
. After 12 years of working here in Indonesia (1998-2010 - Jakarta based) my contract finished and we returned to Texas.
I was consulting up in the Barnett shale close to Dallas, Texas for Devon energy when I received a call from Dimas Utama asking me to return to Indonesia and go to work for them. We made a deal, so myself and my wife returned to Indonesia after only a 6-7 month stay back at home in Texas.
. Shortly after our move back to Jakarta, Dimas Utama received a new 2000 horse power Chinese drilling rig into Indonesia Lamogan shore base outside of Surabaya.
.Then the preparations began.
. Inventory and inspect rig components, fabricate additional rig equipment, 200 man base camp, 30 man mini- camp along with water treatment / sewage treatment plants as well as incinerator for rubbish removal as well as assist warehouse staff in identifying and sorting out two years of spare parts into proper parts storage containers
. Inspect and source, modify our fleet of transport equipment, including trucks, cranes, forklifts and a fleet of light vehicles
. Prepare all tubular, hard banding, machining some of the down hole tools that were not properly prepared when arrival in Indonesia.
. Oversee the barges and tugs and all preparations prior to mobilization of the camps, transport equipment, catering and all relative drilling equipment to our clients jetty in Kasuri block located in the jungles of West Papua.
. Interview and advised Dimas Utama management on hiring all related rig drilling team members, HR, HSE, Procurement, Rig Superintendents, Drillers, Mechanic, Electricians. Local labor was contracted thru a third party labor supplier..
. Once rig arrived Papua we had to stage the equipment while waiting on location to be finalizes and we assisted the Client with our HD trucks in completion of the roads and first location.
. Once location was finalized we rigged up the rig and drilled a 4000 meter plus well, this well had many problems including total losses and also a side track was required. We successfully drilled and tested the first well with only one reportable injury. We carried a normal POB of over 160 men on site, with up to 190 POB while performing DST Operations .
. Once the Dimas Utama rig was up and operating, Dimas put together an IDS Consortium with the Kerui Group, a rig building company from China. We assisted Kerui to bring in a second 2000 HP rig and all related equipment and moved it to West Papua to join in the Kasuri Block drilling campaign.
. I was ask to be the acting Project Manager over the IDS group and have been working with both our companies to monitor and advise the consortium on the drilling, moving and maintenance of both of these 2000 horsepower rigs.
The second rig (IDS Consortium) has also finished its first successful well and is presently Drilling its second well.
Now Dimas Utama has decided to reorganize their operation utilizing all Indonesia crews and management.
So when my contract was up on the 15 of December 2012 it was not reinstated, therefore I am seeking the next challenge.
