Sql Server Software Engineer

Dear Hiring Manager,

I live in Novato. I have been working in IT for over 25 years, either as a Mainframe Software Engineer or Mainframe/Middleware DBA. At Fireman's Fund from 2008 to 2012:

I was Primary DBA for the company’s #1 strategic project, the Policy Administration System, interfacing with vendors (IBM, Accenture).

Responsible for installation, design, sizing and environment build out of databases and ongoing maintenance, support, and performance tuning for both AIX DB2 and Wintel SQL Server.

This included daily online transaction processing, as well as overnight data update/extract processes.

Approach to the Job:

I feel I’m very good at working independently. At Fireman's Fund I worked remotely 3 to 5 days per week while supporting over 30 DB2 Aix servers and over 50 Wintel SQL Servers with multiple database environments on each server.

I was the only DBA in the company to support both DB2 and SQL Server simultaneously. Also supported some Oracle databases on Aix.

I implemented and supported many system releases, many of which occurred over the weekends or off hours.

I kept the databases tuned and humming 24x7 and did a lot of my own maintenance work on weekends or off hours.

Currently a freelance website builder/webmaster with Google. In 2013, I had applied to become a Google Website Publisher in order to broaden my skill set to include things like HTML, CSS, some Javascript, etc.

Also using all of the Google suite of tools:

Adsense, Adwords, Analytics, Blogger, Webmaster, Google Page Speed Performance Tools, etc.

I’ve recently completed an exam for SQL Server DBA.
