COVER LETTER

Dear Hiring Management,

I am actively searching for a position where I can creatively apply my engineering knowledge on a variety of projects. My most recent position had me working in the automotive industry, while there, I realized wanted to have a more in depth understanding of design engineering and project experience with mechanical systems. It is important for me as a team member to use my skills working with inter disciplinary teams to solve problems and as an employee to provide exceptional quality work.

Including my engineering knowledge, I have grown up with a fascination for product design. A recent group related project that I was involved in was building an autonomous robot that could traverse a maze and shoot specified targets. My main role in the group was to design the chassis of the robot in addition to creating the shooting mechanism. I developed the chassis and gun in SolidWorks. I first made a prototype out of spare materials to validate my design. Then creating a 2D drawing from the 3D CAD model, I was able to machine the acrylic plates for the framework on a milling machine. A responsibility I took on considering my extensive experience in machining. A 3D printer was used to create the firing mechanism holder. I then tested the 5V motors and voltage regulator (firing mechanism) as an independent system before implementing it to the robot to insure the system was operational. As a side task my role allowed me to help program the robot using LabVIEW and develop my understanding of system integration. These systems being sonar for location finding, frequency filter for targeting, and motor control for movement., having also helped on each systems’ circuitry.

I am very passionate about the design process from analytically checking a design, to making prototypes, and continuing through multiple iterations before completion. Through those iterations it is thrilling to understand the failures and adjust to those problems. I understand that I might require more experience in certain areas that pertain to the position; however, I know I can quickly learn those tasks during employment. I have been successful learning on the site while at both of my internships. I would like an opportunity to have a personal interview to best demonstrate all that I can bring to the position. This seems like an amazing endeavor that I would want an opportunity to join. Thank you for your time.
