Development Manager Network Services, Program Manager and Project Manager. Multiple simultaneous roles and responsibilities as follows:

Manager of the Network Services Engineering Team. A team of 25+ engineers that cover the full scope of the various applicable technologies. Skill sets included Core and Edge network design, LAN/WAN Routing and Switching, Wireless design and deployment, Information Security and Unified Communications.

Program Management/Scrum Master - Maryland Department of IT (DoIT) A5 approved program manager responsible for the Maryland county by county last mile projects. Includes network designs, deployment of Ethernet over fiber infrastructure and migration of government and commercial customers. Project and Program Management of the Transport Business Unit PMO, One Project Director and 5 Project Managers. Developed a standardized project management process for all projects based upon scope and deliverable complexity. Led the early adoption of Agile principles and practices within the SW development product development organization. Cycle time were greatly reduced due to test driven development methodology and increased product sponsor and product owner involvement.

Transport business unit responsibility for new product development and product support for Ciena transport products. The products were driving an $800M+ annual revenue stream with a supporting engineering organization of 400+ engineers and an additional matrixed project staff of 100+.. Site responsibility for the Ciena Linthicum engineering facility.

Ciena Re-engineering Lead – multiple engagements of project managing the successful integration and cost structure alignment of multiple previous Ciena acquisitions. Project planned and executed multiple Ciena site closures. Efforts were instrumental in Ciena’s ability to return to profitability.

Post IPI acquisition, successfully project managed the ramp of the CN4200 product line from $0 revenue, to

$50 million in 1.5 years. Successfully closed the Shrewsbury Ciena site and migrated all the CN4200 development to other sites with virtually no relocation acceptances. Successfully integrated projects into existing Transport Programs.

Senior Director CoreStream Product Line, Project Manager

Project managed a cross-departmental team effort, including Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing and Customer support, to successfully transform the CoreStream product line from -22% to +45% positive gross margin.

Project, Program and organizational management responsibility for the CoreStream product line and several other sustaining products.

Engineering groups included Project Management, Systems Engineering, Hardware Development, Software Development, System Validation, Lightwave Systems Engineering, Photonic Development and Compliance, and Reliability Engineering.

Re-engineered the Transport engineering business unit from a Linthicum centric culture to a multi-site Matrix project managed cross-functional team culture. Developed and instituted a project management process to successfully plan, track and deliver a wide range of new and sustaining project deliverables. The standardization of these processes into a more Lean Agile approach greatly increased the team’s ability to support more product deliverables while at the same reducing overall engineering budgets. Organizational responsibility for Ciena hardware development which included the CoreStream, CoreDirector, OnlineMetro, Online Edge and MetroDirector product lines. Led efforts to migrate product designs into offshore manufacturing facilities.

The Hardware development groups were geographically dispersed between San Jose, Linthicum, Atlanta and Ottawa, Canada.

Project managed the integration of the CA based hardware development groups and the CA based MetroDirector products with the Linthicum engineering managed orgs. Project managed the Hardware development aspects of the CA Ciena site closure.

Senior Director Product Development, SCRUM Master

Scrum Master for the MetroDirector Ethernet Routing Product Functionality. Led the self-directed cross functional team for the MetroDirector Multiprotocol Switch, successfully delivering the product to market.

Led the efforts to redesign aspects of the product to more suitable for Bell Operating Class product applications. Contracted with industry experts in the functional areas of cabling and mechanical design to correct the most serious product design deficiencies.

Collaborated with Cyras Senior Management in presenting the Cyras product and organizational capabilities to potential acquiring companies. Efforts were successful as Cyras was acquired by Ciena for a substantial stock multiple.

Part of the team responsible for ensuring the successful integration of Cyras into Ciena’s corporate culture and established Ciena business and project management processes. Program Manager Responsibility for the Flash150 Product a Next Generation SONET Add Drop Multiplexer combining STM, ATM and IP functionality. Program deliverables were distributed across several sites and three continents. Drove previously unseen stakeholder engagement levels between the variously geographically diverse Fujitsu development organizations.

The Program Management function included but was not limited to managing the activities of the responsible project leads for 5 concurrent release streams. This included managing the headcount, expense and capital budgets.

Organizational responsibility for hardware and software development teams. Led efforts to adopt Agile principles and practices within the envelope of the defined Fujitsu development process. Director Product Development, Project Manager Flash150 Release 1

Project Manager responsible for the successful delivery for Release 1 of the Flash150 Project. First non- Japanese program lead within Fujitsu Network Communications (FNC). The project included deliverables from the following organizations: ASICs from FJ-Japan and FNC Richardson, HW from both FNC Pearl River and FNC Richardson, SW from FNC Pearl River, FNC Richardson and Subcontract facilities in Ireland.

Developed and institutionalized a project management process to track and measure the progress of all the diverse cross-functional, cross-site deliverables.

First Fujitsu product to pass all NEBS and FCC approvals prior to being released.

Organizational responsibility for managing hardware and systems engineering teams. Led the effort to migrate to a test driven development (TDD) process to improve the velocity of customer driven deliverables into the software release streams.

Senior Manager, Project Lead FLM150 Fastlane Release 2

Project Lead responsibility for FLM150 Fastlane Product release, the first project managed out of the new Fujitsu Pearl River facility. Managed the growth of the Pearl River team from a nucleus of 3 to over 300 within 3 years.

Organizational responsibility for a team of 20 hardware engineers. Ensured the adoption of the Fujitsu associated processes and procedures. Led efforts to significantly improve hardware manufacturing cycle times. Ascom Timeplex • (1/1985 - 3/1996) Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey Development Manager, Project Manager/Team Lead ISDN products

Project Manager – SW and HW development activities and directing cross-functional ISDN product development teams. Product releases included ISDN PRI and BRI, Transit PBX functionality utilizing DPNSS and Qsig protocols. Project included management of 3 outside contracting firms for portions of the SW deliverables.

Scrum Master – Servant/Leader/Coach for the Company’s first Waterfall to Agile Scrum migration. Responsible for the establishment and direction of a self-directed cross-functional product development team accountable for delivering a product portfolio of Low Bit Rate voice compression modules. Successfully delivered the products on a highly compressed schedule with only minimal system test defects found during final verification.

Collaborated with the product owner to determine the product feature requirements based upon competitive analysis, target markets and cost targets. Requirements were continually refined through regular backlog reviews.
