Intrusion Detection System using Honeypots in the technology infrastructure of LUZ April 29, 2015

Authors: Angel Boscan,,

The purpose of this research is to implement an intrusion detection system using Honeypots in the technology infrastructure of LUZ. Research is not experimental, field research and longitudinal type. Will be based on the risk analysis of information security, of Jarauta and Col. in 2006, consisting of four phases: Identification and valuation of assets, Identification and assessment of threats, Identification and assessment of vulnerabilities, Identification and selection of security measures. The main authors for this research were Spitzner (2002), Gonzalez (2003) y Aviles (2009) in information security The project achieved the implementation of Snort as an IDS solution, which performed captures that threw 15.054.333 alerts in the two instances of the system, and the software Dionaea as a Honeypot solution that simulated several services that were used, capturing also a Worm malware hosted in some hosts in the network. Finally, a series of organizational, physical, logical and legal strategies were designed to accomplish a solution to the security problems of LUZ technological infrastructure. We hope that these measures achieve the improvement of the integrity and security of the university systems, also to know them better and optimize the infrastructure. It’s recommended to perform studies more focused on the capture’s analysis by the implemented systems, to find any ignored incident that has major repercussions
