Troubleshooting and problem solving
Continually worked to reduce customer costs by shipping individual orders together which saved on freight charges and packing costs.
Presented documentation on time to freight forwarder and forwarded to customer so that customs clearance could be done quickly and accurately.
Worked with hazmat goods - correctly packaging items and documenting the goods prior to presenting to freight forwarder for shipping. Never had a hazmat incident. Assistant Export Manager Mar 2001 to Aug 2015
OKI Bering / ORS Nasco - Cincinnati, Ohio
Worked with customers and internal departments such as marketing, accounting, pricing, and purchasing to ensure best prices and correct products were ordered and shipped. Produced shipping documents, quotes, sales orders, hazmat documentation, and other documents needed to export goods. Became familiar with customer's needs and requirements and acted as a liaison between them and their freight carriers.
International Transport Coordinator Nov 1991 to Oct 2000 Michelman Intl - Cincinnati, Ohio
Worked in the transportation department so I was more hands on with the shipment of goods. I oversaw loading of containers, packaging and shipping of less than container items, reviewed shipments for potential damage, coordinated hazmat shipments and shipping documents and worked with brokers, both domestic and export, to get shipments out of our warehouse in timely manner with fastest travel time. I took over the hazmat training in house and taught basic DOT regulations to the warehouse as well as other departments required by law to have this training. Education
Export Coordinator Nov 1984 to Nov 1991
DuBois Intl - Cincinnati, Ohio
Began as entry level clerk and worked my way to lead Export Coordinator. I did this by taking classes and learning everything I could about export from the US as well as import processes at the final destination. Improved documentation such as commercial invoice and packing lists so they were easier to read and understand by customs. Finished as department head with one employee.
Bachelor of Arts, Secondary Education 1978
University of Cincinnati - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
It was always my dream growing up to be a teacher so that is what I studied in college. However, once I graduated and worked in the school environment, I realized I wanted to be out in the world more! So I began working in a small company that eventually expanded into international business and I was hooked! I enjoy working with different people and cultures and learning about their needs. Sometimes I think it would be nice to go back into the classroom and teach things I've learned but the opportunity has never presented itself.
