COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND DEALING WITH ADVERSE SITUATIONS
I have good communication skills because of the following:
I make a dedicated effort to learn the staff and the department they work in. This makes them more comfortable when they are in your office or you in theirs.
Listen without being judgmental
I’m confident in the knowledge of my own job responsibilities as well as Policies and Procedures
I try to always be prepared
Remain calm
I have the ability to positively resolve conflict
The majority of conflicts can be resolved before the person leaves your office or you leave theirs. It is just a matter of looking at both sides, listening and coming to a workable solution.
However, I can take necessary action when dealing with continued infractions and misuse of established Policies and Procedures and bid limits. I am firm, to the point, and review the necessary steps in taking corrective action.
I follow up with a letter to the individual reaffirming such action and the steps for correction.
I then take the time at some point to see how the individual is coming along or what I can do to assist him/her.
