Academic Project Experience
Project Title: Ethylene Oxide Plant Scale-Up & Optimization Objective: Diagnose the potential causes of operating problems within the plant and provide recommendations as to how much scale-up is possible, yet remaining economically feasible
• Worked on a team of 6
• Calculated the revenue/income after optimizing and scaling up the process; this included the compressed air costs, and mass differences for the optimized and scaled-up process
• Conducted a pinch point analysis for the improved heat exchanger network
• Generated an updated process flow diagram for the new process using ChemCAD
• Completed a written report detailing the information above, as well as delivering a presentation in front of the professor and related faculty
Project Title: Methanol/Natural Gas Distillation
Objective: Extract natural gas while keeping the exiting methanol concentration below a specified threshold. Determine if creating a recycle methanol stream is more cost effective than deep well injecting methanol.
• Created a process flow diagram for both processes
• Determined the specifications for the necessary equipment and calculated the equipment and utility costs of both scenarios
• Performed mass and energy balances for each piece of equipment involved
• Calculated the NPW on a 10 year plan and the FCI for the process Professional Experience
