EXPERIENCE:
WEST PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES, Inc. – INNOVATION CENTER, Washington, NJ 2011 - 2016 West Pharmaceutical is a global leader in delivery systems that enhance the administration of pharmaceuticals. West’s Innovation Center is on the cutting edge of discovery to enhance the delivery of injectable drugs. Senior Design Engineer
Drawing on strong capabilities in product development (from “white board brainstorming” to heuristic analysis and human factors engineering) unmet product needs were collaboratively identified. The correct product is then developed to satisfy key design inputs during the discovery and concept stage through analyzing user centric studies (validation). Managing the subsequent Design Controls stage, the refined concept(s) are brought into the feasibility stage where the evaluation of form-fit-function will continue; considering mold-ability, materials and design for manufacturing and assembly (verification).
Instrumental in facilitating and ensuring that user needs were met in creating a “connected health” platform. Worked collectively with HealthPrize and Sagentia to develop a system that would interact with current drug delivery devices and interface with smart devices to not only “gamify” the experience of patient engagement, but enhance user compliance, adherence and medical literacy. Efforts resulted in favorable collaboration of next steps. CHRISTOPHER GIEDA ***********.*****@*****.*** Page Two
Assisted in designing a needle-stick prevention device for use on pre-filled syringes (PFS). Continued steering this concept through the feasibility stage through hand off to the business unit responsible for design controls and commercialization. Successful agreements between West and one of the world’s top 4 leading syringe manufacturers are the culmination of these efforts.
Designed ergonomic accessories for syringes to aid physicians, healthcare practitioners and patients with dexterity issues when injecting medications to make the task easier, more effective and to provide a more positive experience
Managed and mentored interns in creating testing procedures, use of testing equipment and results analysis to create specifications documentation. Also coached and encouraged involvement in the product development process of creating new concepts and functional prototypes
Worked closely with business unit managers (under a non-disclosure agreement) to develop proprietary products in preparation for user studies
UNION STREET BRAND PACKAGING, Flanders/Chester, NJ 2002 - 2011 USBP (now Perimeter Brand Packaging - a joint venture with molding giant, Nypro) develops unique packaging solutions essential to distinguishing a product from its competition. USBP is known for the highly-acclaimed Clorox Wipes disinfecting system, GP Quilted Northern wipes tub and the Q-tips cotton swab travel case. Design Engineer
Analyzed and developed new product designs for unmet consumer needs by cultivating non-standard concepts in business-centric designs through creative problem solving, design methodology and sound engineering
Translated ideas into breadboards, working prototypes and pre-production samples
Primary designer and lead in groundbreaking improvements to the Clorox disinfecting wipes dispensing system including ease of access, dry-out resistance and enhanced consumer use (while remaining cost neutral for the brand)
Complete holistic re-design of several Unilever franchise brands, resulting in substantial sales increases
Conceived and co-developed several novel and new fluid and powder/granule delivery systems, resulting intellectual property and prototypes for consumer testing
Designed and engineered unique one-at-a-time glucose test strip dispensing package/system SUSSEX TECHNOLOGIES, INC., Sparta, NJ 1999 - 2002
