Team Lead

Lead the team of engineers that developed all the hardware and software products for the company. Defined architectures and requirements, chaired design reviews, engineering review boards, MRB’s, CCB’s, and FRB’s.

Developed the Cortex line of avionics that included radiation tolerant flight computers, communication systems, and power development and distribution.

Defined the architecture and design of the small earth observing satellite systems including ground and flight systems.

ROCKETPLANE KISTLER

1/2006 – 9/2008

Avionics manager

Oversaw all technical aspects for the K1 launch vehicle and ground support systems.

Extensive interaction with NASA on technical requirements for ISS visiting vehicles.

Managed the technology development at all subcontractors including Aerojet, Northrup Grumman, Draper Labs, Oceaneering, Honeywell, and Lockheed Martian.

Responsible for all technology development in the company. Notable projects include:

a roll stable magnetic bearing for a smart munition

reaction wheels and Control Moment Gyros (CMG’s) for spacecraft

An Un-manned ground vehicle for the naval weapons center.

The SOS (sub-woofer optimization system) that won a CES award for product of the year.

A low voltage emergency lighting system for homes.

GUIDANCE DYNAMICS CORPORATION

3/1989 – 9/1996

Sr. Electronics eng. / Team lead

Developed the MAR-Ti, a roll stabilized tuned rotor gyro inertial instrument with flight proven performance of 1 deg/hr drift. Sounding rocket attitude control systems, attitude control software. Developed flight computers and interface control electronics for launch vehicles.

SPACE VECTOR CORPORATION

9/1982 – 3/1989

Electronics Eng.

Developed the company’s first digital autopilot for the ARES sounding rocket. Transition the company’s avionics from traditional analog systems to modern computer based technologies including their attitude control systems and boost control systems.
