thesis project

2016

Master Thesis “Hierarchical Holonic Architecture for Autonomous Reasoning Agents in Traffic Intersection Coordination”

Achievements:

Proposed a hierarchical holonic architecture of three types of agents which allows a efficient distribution of concerns between agents and a scalable complexity in the number of vehicles.

Conceptualized a shift from “grid” occupation representation primitives to the use of more natural primitives such as lanes - which encompass better the motion of vehicles and reduces computational efforts. This is possible due to the decentralization of the system and resulting autonomy of the agents.

Designed an intra-agent state machine architecture which has an expert knowledge system that dictates its behavior, as well as a deductive reasoning system for dealing with unforeseen events - contributing to the robustness of the system when eventualities occur. Problems are dealt locally.
