Harris RF Communications Division Harrisburg, PA
Senior Network Engineer/Principal Network Engineer February 2000 – June 2013
Work with Project Teams to implement radio communication systems with primary focus of network design and installation. The core consists of Sun and Windows Servers for voice and data services plus Cisco routers, Cisco ASA Firewalls, and Ethernet switches. WAN solutions include Alcatel MPLS, DS1/DS3, Wimax 802.16 wireless, and 802.11 wireless links. I designed networks with QoS using Class Based Weighted Fair Queuing and Low Latency Queuing. Routing solutions implemented include static, Cisco’s EIGRP, and OSPF. For verification purposes, I created acceptance testing plans and network diagrams for maintenance support. Installed upgrades for server operating systems as well as network device software. Performed upgrades for Harris applications on servers and site equipment with minimal downtime for customers. After building a lab in our Harrisburg facility, I verified Harris applications and configurations by performing acceptance tests and by providing packet captures and debugging information of application logs with software/hardware developers. I assisted the Commonwealth of PA in their WAN upgrade of DS3 Microwave backbone to a MPLS solution. As new projects came in I provided design review recommendations based on each customer’s requirements. I have performed capacity planning on systems for bandwidth usage and radio voice requirements. During system installations, I have created network management domain maps for network operation centers. I have also added voice user and subscriber units in application databases and have monitored performance and accounting data for system operations.
Projects:
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania statewide Land Mobile Radio system that includes 7 Network Switching Centers and 2 Network Operation Centers plus over 900 RF sites.
Cumberland County, PA LMR system consisting of 1 Network Switching Center and 16 RF sites.
Interfaced PA Agencies into the PA LMR system for interoperability.
Network support for Harris LMR systems in Northeast and Central regions in US plus others as needed.
Moore Business Communication Services Thurmont, MD
Electronic Specialist/Network Engineer 1989-2000
I installed and maintained network equipment at 3 plant locations that consisted of Cisco routers, Ethernet hubs and switches, SunScreen and Checkpoint Firewalls. The datacenter utilized IBM mainframes and I supported telecommunications equipment Front End Processors and SNA connections over CSU/DSUs and Cisco Serial Tunneling. I provided IBM AIX system administration for RS/6000 servers and attached Hitachi external storage arrays. Created UNIX scripts for automating tape backups and reading customer provided tapes for job processing. I assisted in the installation of Novell Netware system and IPX network. During disaster recovery exercises, I participated in system rebuilds at offsite locations to reestablish business continuity. I performed capacity planning on AIX servers and security audits. I added customer connections to our DMZ utilizing DS1 point to point and Frame-Relay connections. I provided in house network and PC support of Print Engine technology plus repaired to electronic component level custom hardware devices.
