Masters Project:
Current Advancements in the Understanding and Treatment of Combat-Related Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: A literature review was performed with the assistance of the U.S. Army Medical Department Center and School. Article selection was focused on literature related to the treatment, prevention, pharmacology, and pathophysiology of PTSD. A total of 15 articles were included in the literature review to detail the current therapies and explain areas of future research related to PTSD. The purpose of the research review was to evaluate the prevalence of PTSD within the United States military and identify the symptoms, therapies, and current research associated with combat-related PTSD.

2013-2014 U.S. Army Executive Officer Carroll, IA
Assigned as the Executive Officer of a 131 soldier infantry rifle company, consisting of 3 rifle platoons
and a headquarters section. Responsible for assisting the commander in training to include the
assurance of combat readiness, retention, welfare, morale, conduct, and force protection of the
company. Supervised and oversaw the commander’s maintenance, supply, and logistical programs to
ensure a high state of readiness for the company. Required to stand-in as Company commander in
his absence.
2008-2013 U.S. Army Infantry Platoon Leader Carroll, IA
Assigned as a Platoon Leader of a 30 soldier infantry rifle platoon, consisting of 2 infantry rifle squads, a heavy weapons squad, and a headquarters section. Responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of training for a 30 soldier infantry platoon. Accountable for over $19,000,000 of organic and theatre provided equipment while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. Also, as platoon leader, responsible for the tactical employment of the platoon as a whole in full spectrum and counter-insurgency operations while deployed to Afghanistan in 2011.
2001-2008 U.S. Army Medic Johnston, IA
Assigned as the Medical Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (NCOIC) of an organization consisting
of 30 soldiers. Supervised and provided medical treatment primarily as the first responder to all 30
soldiers assigned to the organization. Responsible for the scheduling of yearly physicals and
preservation of yearly immunizations for all 30 soldiers. Assigned as the primary instructor for BLS
and Combat Lifesaver training. Provided life-saving care to multiple soldiers and civilians while
deployed to Iraq in 2003. While deployed, responsible for obtaining a full patient history, conducting a
physical exam, and developing an appropriate treatment plan and disposition for patients at sick call.
Assisted in multiple minor surgeries to include: laceration repair, lipoma removal, foreign body
extraction, toe nail removal, incision and drainage of wound infections, curettage of superficial
lesions, and burn debridement.
