I have over 30 years’ experience in the civil engineering construction sector. My experience includes marine, heavy reinforced concrete structures, foundations, bridges, industrial building, building, mining, roads, earthworks etc.

I have over 18 years’ experience as Project Manager/Area Manager and have worked on projects in South Africa, Lesotho, Mozambique, UK, Ireland, Egypt, Indonesia and UAE. My responsibilities have been:

•Assisting with tenders, work negotiations and presentations.

•Project Pre-Start preparation, resourcing, planning and contract finalisation.

Senior Project Manager (Marine & Civil)

Design and build of 120 berth, super yacht marina for the 5 star resort on Canouan: Glossy Bay Canouan Marina is to be a very high-end, exclusive and boutique-style marina and waterfront destination. The extent of the works being the construction of an extensive breakwater structure, A basin and flushing channel excavation with quay walls and revetment finishes, Raising and compacting of land levels, to accommodate the marina infrastructures, buildings and waterfront residences, The creation of a nominal 120 berth marina with public and private residential berthing for vessels from 10 to 110 meters LOA, and a dedicated berthing area for super/mega yachts, equipping the marina with floating pontoons, piled pontoon moorings and all the necessary ancillary equipment for the main marina and super/mega yacht berthing areas.

Mar 2013 – Dec 2013 Athena S.A. – Fujairah, UAE

Senior Project Manager (Marine & Civil)

Design and build 830m of new quay wall for new oil terminal, Port of Fujairah consisting of: 1042mm diameter tubular pile combi-wall with infill triple sheet piles supported by HEB 800 MV piles. Construction of reinforced concrete capping beam, vibro-replacement stone columns, dredging, land reclamation, hardstand and concrete foundations for MLA Loading Arms. All other associated work including culverts, pipe line extensions, fire water intakes etc. - $50 Million

Responsible for the operational planning and management of the project. Including:

Human resources planning and management, method statements, design review and build-ability analysis, determine staffing requirements for all disciplines in accordance with progamme, recruit/interview and select staff when necessary, identify training needs for staff and implement as needed, financial planning and management, manage and/or complete daily/weekly/monthly reporting, liaise with client regularly, chair internal and external meetings, deal with public relations when required, manage and implement all health/safety/environmental requirements, manage procurement of materials/equipment/plant and subcontractors, manage subcontractors and ensure that own company policy/rules/regulations/quality are adhered to.

2011 – 2012 PT Leighton Contractors Indonesia – Sumatra, Indonesia

Project Manager (Civil)

Martabe Gold Mine, North Sumatra. (New Mine. Mining operations and construction of new process plant (Civils). Primary crusher, conveyor system, milling, underground stockpile facility, process areas, tanks farms, pipelines, roads, bulk earthworks etc.

I was one of three project managers on a rotation system, responsible for both mining and the construction of a new process plant and infrastructure. The project was based in the middle of virgin jungle area in Northern Sumatra. The process plant was a fast track project and had to be constructed on a 24hr a day/7 days a week programme. A very challenging project, which was successfully completed in 8 months. My responsibilities were the same as above.

2009 – 2011 Archirodon - Egypt

Project Manager/Deputy Project Manager (Marine & Civil)

New Container Terminal – Egypt, $450 Million New container terminal including 2.4km of quay wall.

New 500 MW Single Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant - $30 Million

I was deputy project manager for the new container terminal reporting to the senior project manager based in Cairo. The project consisted of a quay wall made up of insitu reinforced concrete diaphragm piles with heavy reinforced capping structure built in the dry and dredged at a later stage. All reticulation, roads, crane rails, admin blocks, warehousing etc. was also in the scope of work.

I was Project manager for the Power Plant which included all civil and building work. All structures were supported on reinforced concrete piles. Unfortunately due to national unrest I was evacuated and was unable to return to complete this project.

My responsibilities were the same as above.

2008 – 2009 Dutco Balfour Beatty (LLC) - Dubai

The project I was employed to manage was unfortunately cancelled due the international economy crisis at the time. I was therefore put in charge of various existing work that required expediting and completion. My responsibilities were the same as above.

£10.0M flood alleviation scheme – East Anglia – 250,000m3 beach recharge, 21 no. armour rock groynes (85,000T) and promenade refurbishment.

£30.0M sea defence project – Kent – 2.1 km of reinforced concrete wave wall, 340,000T of armour rock revetment and other associated work.

Bawdsey Emergency Works for the construction of rock armour revetment for the EA.

The construction of a rock armour revetment, stilling well etc. at Blind Yeo, Clevedon for the EA.

2001 – 2003 Self Employed

The construction of new 3,200m3 warehouse and access road, sewer and stormwater reticulation, parking areas, hardstandings and associated works.

2000 to 2001 Concor Moçambique LDA

NEW COCA-COLA BOTTLING PLANT - Nampula, Northern Moçambique, South East Africa - (US $ 10 million)

This fast track Mocambican contract, to be built in 12 months.

The Project was relatively straight forward but was made difficult due to various logistical problems such as: Transportation of material, Customs, Housing of 24 Staff, lack of local infrastructure, extreme weather conditions etc.

On site costing and payments were made.

On site labour wages were processed.

Workforce peaked at 380 number excluding sub-contractors.

Sub-contractor companies numbered 11 at peak.

CONCRETE SILO FOUNDATIONS - Nacala, Northern Moçambique - (US $5 million)

Construction of Concrete foundations and infrastructure for a grain exporter (200km east of Nampula on the coast) for a local Moçambican Company.

NAMIALO COTTON GINERY - Namialo, Northern Moçambique - (US $ 10 million)

Construction of a new Cotton Factory (100km east of Nampula) for a local Moçambican Company. Consisting of Main Gin Building, Warehouse, weighbridge, ablutions and all services such as water, electrical, stormwater and sewage.

5 STAR HOTEL COMPLEX – Pemba – Northern Mocambique

Involved in the start-up of this project only, before returning to the UK.

I was based full time in Nampula, responsible for all aspects of the above contracts reporting to the Contracts Director based in Johannesburg, South Africa. My responsibilities were the same as above, but I was also responsible for establishing the area office. The last three projects above were procured while I was in the area. The area of Nampula was very under-developed and resources had to be shipped in from outside and local labour and other employees had to be trained from ‘scratch’.

MOZAL SMELTER PROJECT - Main Substation - $54.0 million

Located in Maputo, Mocambique, South East Africa.

This fast track Mozambican contract involved a number of reinforced concrete structures, road works, building works and underground services.

The contract commenced in January 1999 where housing and messing for 44 number staff members had to be rapidly secured.

On site costing and payments were made.

Workforce peaked at 440 number excluding sub-contractors.

Sub-contractor companies numbered 21 at peak.
