Experience Summary from TATA Consultancy Services Ltd.,

Client: Retail Projects across TCS - TEG (Technology Excellence Group), Kolkata, India Feb 2012 – Sep 2012

Role: Solution Architect

Served as a solution Architect for TEG-Technology Excellence Group responsible for defining technology architecture and framework for BI delivery.

Prepared technical RFP and proposal for Sainsbury Ltd-UK, Bestbuy-Canada, PETCO, Phones4U-UK

Responsible for providing hands on support to BI delivery teams for Solution, Technical and Data Architectures including platform selection, data modelling and ETL design.

Responsible forEstimation, Tool selection for both ETL and OLAP technologies for the solution.

Shared Implementation Methodology for Sainsbury team

Trained TCS associates on Informatica 9 and shared technical solution

Challenges faced& Solutions given:

Sainsbury’s UK, had space constraint for multiple TB of history data loading. I have created an implementation methodology for parallel export and import process, hence only minimal space used for bulk history data loading.

For Bestbuy – Canada proposal as part of solution recommended Informatica CDC methodology for real-time data warehousing.

Client:The Co-operative Group: Manchester- United Kingdom - Kronos Dec 2009 – Nov 2010

Role: Informatica 8 ETL Architect, Business Objects XiR2 Technical architect and Onsite delivery manager

Served as anETL Architect for The Co-operative Group client and designed and implemented data integration and data warehousing solution.

Re-engineering of 100+ Datastage ETL components to Informatica 8.0 components

Provided Data warehouse ETL Architecture, data model, prepared high level technical specifications, test specifications.

Performed performance testing and defined Implementation methodology.

Implemented successfully in the Client environment

Prepared Requirement documents based on the clients interactions and end users feedback for GSM (General Store Merchandising) report development project.

Leading BOXiR2 report team, created technical specification for BO Universe designing and reports, Use case for testing of reports in Teradata environment

Reviewed deliverables from offshore developers, provided technical solutions to the development team as and when required.

Coordinated with Client and Other support groups for the smooth execution of the project

Challenges faced & Solutions given:

Implementation of real-time Data into TCG environment was challenging. There was a space constraint also for the huge volume of daily data as the batch processes were running for longer duration. Implemented Informatica CDC for real-time loading without batch processing. And also before loading the History data to avoid the duplication, turned on CDC module.

Clients were not having the clear idea on the available data in the GSM environment. We studied the entire GSM environment with the SME from TCS team and created Universe and delivered the reports. This was taken care with their current as well as future requirements of the reports and much appreciated.

Software:Informatica 8, AscentialDatastage 7.5.1, Oracle 10g Database, HP Load Runner 9.10 & HP Quality Center

Client: Somerfield Stores Ltd:Bristol- United Kingdom–Oracle 10g Migration Feb 2008 – Nov 2009

Role: Datastage ETL Architect

Served as an ETL Architect for Somerfield Stores Ltd. Designed and implemented massive 5TB data integration solution.

Redesigned 350+ Informatica 5.0 ETL components to Datastage 7.5.1 components in Oracle 10g Environment

Provided new ETL Architecture, data model, prepared high level technical specifications based on the older Informatica components

Managed technically a team of 16 associates

Prepared and provided Checklist, Standards, and Templates for Datastage ETL Development.

Provided technical solutions to the team, reviewed the deliverables, coordinated with clients, different support groups, stake holders and the development team

Defined the implementation methodology for 250+ DatastageETL components in production environment using phasewiseimplementation.

Decommissioned the older environment without impacting the production environment

This was much appreciated projects for smooth implementation as well as the Best performance implementation

Challenges faced & Solutions given:

The Data warehouse system was receiving data from nearly 210 source systems and some of the source owner was a single user rather than a group. No documentations were available to understand the 350+ Informatica 5.0 ETL functions. Hence the technical specification was created based on the individual ETL components, categorised the components based on 22 subject areas and created enterprise Warehouse with multiple subject area datamarts

Somerfield production environment had 1500+ jobs running and implementing the newer jobs was one of the major challenges faced as well as the overnight jobs were running for more than 18 hours. Hence stores received the reports only around 2.00 pm in the afternoon.

I have redesigned the entire ETL architecture and removed unwanted components and to increase performance redefined them. Due to this the overnight patch jobs completed within 8 hours and the stores were receiving the reports before the stores opens for functioning.

Implemented the ETL batch jobs in phase wise rather than BIG BANG approach suggested by client. But phase wise implementation helped the client for smooth transition without affecting the day-to-day business. As the implementation was broken into small phases, all the initial issues were rectified easily and effectively.

Hence I have trained entire 12 team members in Data Warehousing concepts, PL/SQL, Oracle Database, Oracle Warehouse Builder 10.2 and Oracle Discovered plus 10.2.
