Nurse Practitioner Medical

Introduction

After completing high school in the Netherlands (where I was born) I wanted to pursue a career as a nurse. The medical system in the Netherlands differs from our system in America, due to the fact that hospitals will hire and train nurses instead of attending a nursing school. At the time I wanted to pursue a nursing career, there was an overflow of nurses and was unable to find placement. Instead, I decided to follow my father in his footsteps to become a financial planner.

I was a successful in the financial planning industry for 12 years when a financial planning firm from Des Moines, Iowa provided me with the opportunity to come to the United States and work here as a financial planner. In 1995 I decided to pursue that opportunity. In 2000 I joined the volunteer fire department of Altoona, Iowa and became a fire fighter/medic. As most of our emergency calls were medical, my exposure to the medical fields ignited the desire (again) to pursue a career in medicine.

Although successful in the financial planning industry, I made the choice to follow a career in medicine that would lead me to become a nurse practitioner today. This journey started in 2008 and is now completed in 2016.

Clinical Rotation Experience

•During clinical rotation I would complete the initial meeting with the patient, obtain information, medical relevant data, history, vital signs and provide diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plan for patients. Clinical rotation included suturing, applying splints, analyze X-ray images, and to analyze lab reports. All assessments were completed individually after which the preceptor would assess the patient and discuss diagnosis and treatment plan.

About Me Personally

•Both my wife and I enjoy spending time with our three children (Connor-16, Dane-14, and Bella-6). Our kids are active in sports (gymnastics and rock-climbing) and we will spend lots of time watching them. We also enjoy traveling, preferable to the beach. Although we enjoy Florida and San Diego, anywhere there is a beach, we will be happy to go. Personally I enjoy working out, driving my Harley, play golf, and scuba diving. We lead an active life and enjoy being outdoors.
