Maintenance, repairs and running of main engines and generator for effective power production and distribution.
Carry out routine checks on generator, main engines, couplings, Valves, Shaft system and various equipment

Report to my immediate superior when fault is observed on any equipment.
In case of damage caused by fire and water ingress on-board ship, have the technical no-how to fight fire and water ingress.
I am one of the first marine engineers to be trained on manta boat class (P 243 & p 245) and I partook actively during the militancy era in the Niger-delta region.
Also, in 2004, I was one of the engineers sent to the U.S.A. to inspect and eventually bringing her to Nigeria, NNS OBULA. My duties primarily on these voyages are to:
1. Inspect the hull of the ship, checking for type of metal and strength of materials and year of manufacture. 2. Inspect the class of ship and equipments on board. 3. Check the configuration of the main engines and generator including the maker and class. 4. Inspect and confirm that all machineries and auxiliary equipments on-board are in good working conditions and sea- worthy.
5. Report any defect observed to the marine engineer officer (MEO). 6. Carry out planned maintenance schedules on the main engines, generators, pumps, shaft, couplings, life raft etc. I have served on-board the following ships: NNS AGU, NNS OFIOM, NNS AMBE, NNS AYAM, MANTA BOAT (P243), NNS BRASS, NNS BARAMA (Mine sweeper), NNS OBULA, and NNS ARADU.
