Design Engineer Experience
Engineered designs including concept development, requirements definition, requirements tracking, component and system design, drawing production, manufacturing acquisition, testing and verification.
Created 3D models and engineering drawings using GD&T with ASME Y14.5 standards. Released data packages in Product Data Management (PDM) with signoffs. Workflow was done with compliance to a Quality Management System (QMS) certified to ISO 9000 and AS 9100.
Analytical modeling of thermal, structural, and fluid performance using CAD and specialty software packages.
Experienced in NASA and commercial human spaceflight and extreme environment, life critical design requirements. Familiar with extensive NASA and MIL standards related to human design.
Project Management Experience
Team lead for multiple projects including US Navy contaminated water diving suit, suborbital life support systems, orbital thermal protection systems, and Orion Spacecraft Thermal Radiator and ECLSS tubing.
EVMS planning, tracking and reporting of schedule and budget of up to $2 million per year.
Project management of teams ranging in size from 5 to 30+ technical staff
Team development, integrating existing engineers, hiring new staff, training of new hires, team tasking, and structuring team interfaces. Also involved in performance reviews and promotion within the team that included training of two new team leads.
Worked closely with Manufacturing and Quality Departments to ensure product manufacturability and quality control acceptance upon completion.
Direct customer interface including design meetings and major design review support.
Test Engineering Experience
Wrote and executed test plans for multiple systems that included material compatibility testing, component lab testing, tabletop systems testing, environmental performance testing, and human-in-the-loop tests.
Built and optimized lab systems including pressurized underwater depth simulators and breathing simulators.
Programmed input PID controllers and designed testing LabView Control and DAQ systems.
Qualified systems with unmanned systems testing and manned testing. Experience as as human test subject and test director for manned verification and certification tests of life critical systems.
Process Development Experience
Continuous improvement activities including developing and updating procedures for Quality Management System (ISO 9000 and AS 9100 certified)
Developed safety procedures and design requirements for high-pressure oxygen and ammonia systems.
Worked with Manufacturing and Quality Departments to develop internal manufacturing processes certifications for tube bending, orbital welding and mechanical tube joining, adhesive bonding, laser welding, and friction stir welding. Orbital welding process was later certified by our customer for Special Process Supplier status.
Proposal Development
Wrote Phase II Proposal Update for Navy Contaminated Water Diving System as well as a Phase III acquisition proposal resulting in over $2 million in contracts.
Provided input to multiple NASA SBIR proposals with high acceptance rate.
Provided IPT costing and technical sections for company spacecraft systems proposals resulting in millions of dollars in contract value. Provided requested updates to customer for schedule and budget.
