I have performed acute care in an immediate care setting as well as full primary care including chronic and well visits. I am certified as NRCME for DOT physicals. I currently function in a group of 5 primary care physicians and 4 pediatricians.
2006-2010 Nurse Practitioner, Indiana Oncology Hematology Consultants As the nurse practitioner for a 7 physician oncology group, I see hematology and oncology patients for routine follow up visits. I also see patients for symptom management and emergent visits. Duties also include ordering and monitoring laboratory and other test results. I maintain prescriptive privileges. I provide patient education regarding their diagnosis and chemotherapy regimens. I have obtained hospital privileges at St. Francis Hospital, Methodist, Clarian North, and St Vincent hospitals. 2006-2006 Nurse Practitioner, Life’s Journey-Choices in Care As a new nurse practitioner, I was been instrumental in launching the new palliative care program for the Community Hospital Network. I rounded on inpatients with chronic disease processes to assist with symptom management and patient education. These efforts were aimed at preventing frequent readmissions. This program is still in its infancy and will also encompass a home care program as well as an outpatient clinic format. Community Regional Cancer Care @ Community East Hospital As manager for a new outpatient oncology practice, I was instrumental in formulating clinic protocols and practices. I remained responsible for hiring, training and disciplining staff as well as helping to create job descriptions. The practice was relocated to a larger location after 9 months due to extensive growth. My responsibilities also included providing patient care in the chemotherapy infusion area as well as the physician clinic area, serving as a mentor and resource to staff.
1999-2002 Director of Nursing, Hancock Memorial Hospital As the Director of Nursing for a 21 bed Medicare certified Transitional Care Unit. I supervised the day to day nursing operations including acting as a nursing resource for the staff as well as physicians and rehab disciplines while monitoring for compliance with state and federal long-term care regulations. I conducted all performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, inservices and payroll. The unit maintained a high skill level of med/surg, end-stage oncology, orthopedic surgical, and rehab patients as well as providing terminal care for hospice patients.
1997-1999 Staff Nurse, Methodist Hospital, A6N Pulmonary Floor Responsible for primary care of pulmonary patients including pneumonia, asthma, COPD, oncology, and cystic fibrosis patients involving suctioning, wound care, G/J tubes, NG tubes, ostomies, trachs, external orthopedic fixators, chest tubes, drains, chemotherapy administration, IV medications, IV maintenance, central lines, implanted ports. Additional responsibilities included charge nurse duties and precepting new staff. 1994-1997 Patient Care Manager, Methodist Hospital TCU Responsible for the day to day operation of a 60 bed Medicare certified transitional care unit which included an 11 bed palliative care unit and an 8 bed vent-wean unit. Duties included monitoring for compliance with state and federal regulations.
