THREE: PRACTICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

September 2007 – Till Now: Translator and interpreter, Commissioner General’s Office / United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). My responsibilities include the following:

Translate documents, reports and website content from English into Arabic and vice-versa for internal or external use.

Act as interpreter at press briefings, internal meetings and other official occasions as required.

Draft materials in English and Arabic for dissemination or any other purpose.

Review work of other translators.

February 2004 – September 2007: Assistant Public Information Officer / Translator at United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). My responsibilities in UNRWA included the following:

Maintaining regular contact with local and international media representatives.

Advising the director and the public information officer on local public relations and matters of interest to the Agency.

Drafting text in Arabic and English for PI materials.

Monitoring daily press and preparing daily/weekly press summaries in English.

Translating documents from Arabic into English and vice versa.

Briefing and escorting visitors and journalists, and interpreting when required.

Preparing for press conferences and facilitating its related arrangements. January 1996 – February 2004: Coordinator of the National Center for Population Communication at the Higher Population Council – General Secretariat

(HPC). My responsibilities in HPC included the following:

Librarian and system information manager for the library database system based on CDC/ISIS software.

Translation.

Editor of the HPC’s Journal “Population and Development” as well as the

“Population Bulletin”. This work included typesetting and designing of those publications.

Responsible for most of the HPC’s publications in terms of editing and printing matters.

HPC's Counterpart to PRB “Population Reference Bureau” in Washington.

The Preliminary Report of Jordanian DHS (Demographic & Health Survey) 1997, which was published in JNPC’s journal “Population & Development” – volume 4.

Trends in Demographic, Family Planning, and Health indicators in Jordan, 1976-1997, which was also published in the 5th volume of the same journal.

JAFS 2000 (Jordan Annual Fertility Survey 2000), which was published in volume 6 of the same journal.

“Population manual” booklet, “Making pregnancy safer” fact sheet, “Breast feeding Patterns” wall chart, “Reproductive Health” and “New Population Policies” booklets, which were produced in cooperation with PRB “Population Reference Bureau” in Washington. My efforts in these publications were translation, editing, typesetting, designing and printing all the above mentioned materials.

Producing and editing JNPC’s publications such as JNPC brochures “English & Arabic”, Population challenges to sustainable development in Jordan 2000- 2020 “Arabic” in cooperation with Dr. Issa Al-Massarweh, as well as producing the JNPC’s inventory of population studies in Jordan.
