1.Senior Advisor

Sona BLW Precision Forge Inc., Selma North Carolina since Sept 2013.

Company: Company is North American unit of Sona BLW group of companies spread over three continents. The company specializes in making precision gears by forging thus avoiding costly machining. Over the years, it has evolved into the largest employer of the city of Selma by developing unique products and satisfying the customer’s needs. It has forging, machining, heat treatment and tool and die facilities.

My Role: Current position is held since Sept 2015 responsible for quality systems and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include establishment of quality and improvement culture in the company in line with increased expectations of global customers. Worked as Vice-President Operations from Oct 2013 to Aug 2015. Responsibilities included providing leadership of logistics, materials, supply chain, planning, quality assurance, engineering, manufacturing and maintenance functions. The key tasks at this role were to maintain production within specific guidelines for production efficiency, labor cost, product rework, waste amounts, and control of on-hold product.

Achievements: Established a continuous improvement culture in the company by establishing policy management, skill development, daily management and employee involvement initiatives. Scrap of the plant reduced by 30% in 2 years (plus $1 mil saving on account of inventory write-off due to scrap which was not reported in scrap). Rework in HT reduced from over 10% to 1% in 6 months.

2.Corporate Head TPM

Sona BLW Praezisionsschmiede GmbH Germany from Dec 2008 to Sep 2013 (4.75 years)

Company: Company is a pioneer in precision forging technology. It developed first net-shaped bevel gear in the world in 1950s using forging technology. Since then, it has developed many products using forging technology replacing costly machining operations while saving costly raw material. It has three plants in Germany, two in India and one in the USA.

My Role: Led TPM and Quality System activities in all the three German plants from Dec 2011 to Sep 2013 and provided guidance to US plant of Sona BLW. Led Production function in addition to Improvement and System Development in Munich Plant from Mar 2009 to Nov 2011. During this period, also worked as a deputy plant head and assumed responsibility of plant head for two days in a week when plant head was away to handle second plant at Duisburg. Worked as Head – System development from Dec 2008 to Feb 2009. During this period, I was also responsible for coordinating integration activities with Indian operations after the acquisition of the company by Indian employer.

Achievements: During this period, the company was transformed from a sick unit (on verge of bankruptcy) to a stable and profitable unit. EBITDA increased from -6.3% in 2009 to +8% in 2011. I was part of due diligence team that led to successful acquisition of the company by my Indian employer.

3. Assistant Vice President

Sona Koyo Steering System Ltd., Gurgoan (India) from Sep 1989 to Nov 2008 (19 years).

Company: Company is a manufacturer of Steering Systems and Driveline Products. It received Deming Award (2003), TPM Excellence Award (2007), TS 16949 certification and ISO-14001 certification. It has implemented TQM under guidance of Prof. Y. Tsuda (formerly professor at Rikkyo University Tokyo and counselor at JUSE) since 1997, TPM under guidance of Mr. S. Yamaguchi of JIMP since 1999 and Breakthrough Management under guidance of Prof. S. Shiba (formerly professor at MIT) since 2004.

My Role: Led TQM activities from Jun 1999 to Nov 2008 as Asstt. Vice President. Responsibilities included implementation of TQM, TPM, Breakthrough Management and QMS activities in the Company. Led production activities of machine shop and assembly lines of automotive components of Axle Product Group as Section Head from Jan 1991 to Jun 1999. Worked as Project Engineer from Sep 1989 to Jan 1991and was instrumental in developing Propellers Shaft and Axle components and setting up machining and assembly lines for these drive line products.

Achievements: Deming Application Prize to the company in 2003. TPM Excellence Award to the company in 2007. I participated in development of entirely new product (electric power steering, EPAM) using Breakthrough Management principles. With the help of TPS techniques, sales was increased by 50% without any new investment in a period of 5 years.

Brecko Precision Engineering (P) Ltd., Gurgoan (India) from May 1987 to Sep 1989 (2.5 years). Worked in production department with manpower strength of about 50 employees. Company was engaged in manufacture of precision automotive components.
