Engineering Manager, Landing Systems, Tullahoma, TN 2015 – 2016

Tullahoma TN under UTC Aerospace Systems is a $2.5M per month site manufacturing Landing Gear Sub-Assemblies from supplied forgings to final design specifications, both small and large applications.

Site Engineering Manager over Manufacturing Engineering, CNC programmers, and site Facilities groups.

Manager over processes and Equipment maintenance of large milling machines, processing Titanium and steel forgings machined to design specification for commercial and military applications.

Managed the team of engineers using CNC application tools, including 3d modeling Catia, Vericut, and 3d Wave software. Applications were used to standardize manufacturing processes across the machine shop.

Completed Executive objective (Cost, Delivery, and Quality SRR) by reducing $2.0M scrap risk from previous years.

Executive measurements, including:

oA350 Development Test prototypes – Reducing quality issues from 15-20 items per part to 2-4 items.

oAchieving equipment uptime of 95% and sustaining over past 8 months.

oDirecting project to re-process 2 large machines and consolidating to 1 Mazak machining process. Project reduced labor and machine time by 40%, with additional 30% reduction on manual process during debur operations.

Developed an SAP data collection tool, consolidating quality tasks to close out turnbacks in a timely manager.

Directed Manufacturing Engineers, driving actions to site quality defects reducing 10% of the defects from previous year.

Program manager over 68 projects reducing cycle time by 10%, quality of product by 60%, reducing rework hours by 35%, and directly decreasing dollars scrapped from previous years.

Engineering Manager, Phoenix, AZ 2007 – 2015

UTC Aerospace Systems Phoenix is a $40M per month site for assembly and test of electronic systems manufactured to meet design and customer applications. Programs include commercial and military Electrical Power Systems, Actuation Systems, Electronic Engine Controls, and Electronic Helicopter Applications.

Manager of Test Equipment Engineering and Operational Support Engineering

Site Engineering Manager supporting electronic manufacturing for Aerospace Systems including: Test Equipment maintenance, Test Engineering, Operational Support Engineering, Project Engineering, and Engineering Test Technicians. Formed a connection between design and manufacturing.

Six Sigma Projects reduced the Scrap Rework and Repair (SRR) by $2.4M.

Manage the site industrial plan across multiple cells supporting 6 different business units.

Industrial plan increased the product and equipment productivity by 35% in 2014 and capital plans schedule to add additional 25% for 2015.

Specific - Capital planning ($5.0M+) and capacity analysis on the 787 program to support equipment transferred into manufacturing. Airbus A350 Electric System product move into Phoenix in 2014 with the additional capital planning and partnership with business units to ensure industrial plans meet the production readiness for Airbus.

Finance - Managed the financial funding for outside engineering support and established a process controlling spending which drove financial cost to the Phoenix operation.

Managed the team through capital projects, cost reduction justification and implementation: Sample of the project include: ACE requirements for lean transformation, cost reduction with automated test equipment, and mechanized flow line to level load assembly processes based on customer TAKT (customer demands).

Quality systems Executive data – collected JDEdward system data to support site visits with customers to present product yield summary, actions to root cause, and aligned my engineering staff with the 8D clinic investigation tools.

Operation Center Manager, Airframe Programs, Phoenix, AZ 2004 – 2007

Operation Center Manager managed electronic end item test and assembly with support staff including Manufacturing Engineering (ME), Operation Engineering Support (OSE), and Test Engineering.

Direct reports include 26 direct reports, 6 electronic test technicians, 13 end item assemblers, 7 customer service and rework assemblers.

Managing the Customer Service Value Stream efforts, reduced turnaround time from over 30 day last years to an average of 25 days. As a result of this event, new process implemented an express lane for end item troubleshoot rework.

Supported 3P events with design center on new product introduction. The concepts learned during this event were used in Phoenix for the facility 3P event for layout of transferred equipment.

Senior Test Engineer, Phoenix, AZ 2003 – 2004

Test Engineer – Ensuring program specific software was controlled and released to equipment, certified to be used for production and drawing requirements.

Site leader for test equipment transfers to the Phoenix facility.

Development Test Platform team member. Common test application platform designed to apply to multiple end applications to reduce cost and standardize test functions across multiple design programs.

Managed and support 7 test applications with 3 different operating systems and 3 different source code.

Process Specialist / Senior Technician, Phoenix, AZ 1997 – 2003

Electronic test technician, troubleshooting to component level and certifying end item assembly tested per drawing requirements.

Support design engineers developing programs taken ownership of new products from design center.
