October 2014 to Present Inversa Systems, Fredericton, NB Full time Microelectronics Engineer, P.Eng

Equipment Improvement and Risk Management

I am responsible for the design, development and implementation of electronic and electromechanical systems required for automation of Inversa’s proprietary backscatter computed tomography scanners. Tasks involve research to reduce the size and weight of the field equipment and to decrease its failure rate within the field. This required that I design and develop circuits, build and test circuit board designs, as well as firmware and software design. I was successful in leading at team to a final design that is fully self- contained, decreasing its weight and size from 107 kg to 35 kg while reducing the failure rate of over 80% to less than 1%.

Innovation

I am responsible for brainstorming and the development of new and innovative solutions to solve our clients’ asset management issues. I have developed a hand-held acoustic tool, patent pending, that will be used for rapid detection and mapping of soil voids behind corrugated steel culvert walls. I have lead and supported a team in the building of the acoustic tool prototype which is currently undergoing field testing. I am also responsible to provide assistance and technical support to the field team during equipment deployment as well as manage and address any issue quickly and efficiently. April 2006 to October 2014 Tek Consultants Limited, Fredericton, NB Full time Engineering Consultant, P.Eng

Project Management

I was responsible for electrical design projects ranging from communication and network infrastructure, access control and security systems, life safety systems, lighting, instrumentation and control, motor control (MCC), power distribution, arc flash mitigation, and lightning protection. These projects were applied to industrial, commercial, institutional, healthcare, government, military and nuclear power facilities. This required that I manage and direct the projects during development of specifications, drawings, maintenance requirements, training guides etc. while adhering to industry standards and code compliance. I was responsible to monitor and control the physical implementation of the projects’ design during the construction phase and final inspection prior to delivery and turnover to the client. I was also responsible for peer reviewing documentation, drawings and designs from other engineers. As well, I researched several case studies and simulations to write Return on Investment reports for various clients to support them in the management of their cost savings decisions.
