AlkB Gene and Hydrocarbon Degradation in A. borkumensis

Researched the AlkB gene in the bacterium Alcanivorax borkumensis to identify its role in hydrocarbon degradation

Identified gene product as a non-heme iron monooxygenase.

Described how the gene product oxidizes the terminal methyl group of the molecule, triggering a series of reactions that results in hydrocarbon degradation. Calcification of Ostrea lurida

Collected three different broods of the Olympia oyster O. lurida.

Introduced ten oysters from each brood to water with increasing carbon dioxide concentrations and grew them for a period of time.

Used ImageJ program to extract size information from digital photos.
