AlkB Gene and Hydrocarbon Degradation in A. borkumensis

Researched the AlkB gene in the bacterium Alcanivorax borkumensis to identify its role in hydrocarbon degradation

Identified gene product as a non-heme iron monooxygenase.

Described how the gene product oxidizes the terminal methyl group of the molecule, triggering a series of reactions that results in hydrocarbon degradation. Calcification of Ostrea lurida

Collected three different broods of the Olympia oyster O. lurida.
