Projects:

Ultra Capacitor based Power Supply Unit:

Description: In Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs), electrical starting is employed.Whenever the heavy load is switched ON, it draws surge current of order of thousand Ampere. Due to this surge current, voltage at turret falls to a lower value which affects the performance of electronic system. To protect the critical electronic loads during voltage dip, NiCd battery backup is being used in MBT ARJUN Mk-I vehicles.As part of Mk II improvements, UC based back up power supply was developed to deliver the required current to critical loads during voltage dip period.

Contribution: Evaluation of the Unit was carried out in two phases; individual module testing, integrated testing followed by field evaluation at Suratgarh MFFR (Mahajan Field Firing range).

Achievement: Followed by the successful test results, this module is replaced in place of battery back up in PT-37.

Battery Monitoring System (BMS):

There are eight VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid ) batteries in ARJUN MBT. In order to monitor the condition of each battery from time to time Battery Monitoring System was developed

Contribution:

Involved in the feasibility study

Coordinated with the vendors about the requirement of type of parameters to be monitored

Participated in field evaluation test

“Automated Test Equipment (ATE)”for Armored Fighting Vehicle’s (AFV) Electrical Sub Assemblies

There are several electrical assemblies are in ARJUN MBT. If there is any fault occurs it is very difficult to know which assembly is under trouble. In order to recognize the fault in each assembly Automated Test Equipment was developed

In ARRV previously welding is done with the help of welding generator. As a part of MK-II Improvements welding was provided with the help of existing batteries in ARRV

Current Control Unit was prepared with the welding rods
