I am a senior engineer in the fast moving consumer goods industry with extensive accomplishments in cost savings, building new sites and managing strategic asset projects. I am well versed in all aspects of maintenance, facility management, manufacturing engineering, process engineering and packaging engineer. I am seeking a position in Manufacturing Operations or Engineering in a full time or consulting role.

Professional Experience

The Hartz Mountain Corporation:

A major manufacturer of pet care consumer goods. As Director of Engineer I was the resource for new product production assets, efficient plant set up and compliance with local state and federal agencies as they pertain to the manufacturing operations.

Director of Corporate Engineering 1996 – Present

Managed a 3-year project that reset the manufacturing and distribution operations. This project generated large cost savings and unburdened the company from aged physical assets.

Managed all engineering aspects of four acquisitions in 1996 and 1997. These four companies were food plants handling grains, processed foods, meat products and meat by-products.

Developed and oversaw a central engineering department and maintenance staff at all manufacturing plants.

Moved rawhide packaging operations from off shore to US to shorten supply chain. Labor input neutralized by automation and packaging format reengineering. Set up manufacturing operations including, packaging lines, warehouse needs, raw material Kanban with pull inventory maintenance process, staffed production labor as well as mechanical staff and supervision. (2003)

Reengineered Packaging Development group. Staffing was reduced from 11 to 5. Effectiveness realized by implementing a DCS with customized templates for component specification that reduced the amount of time needed to commercialize a product or product change. This system now provides a formal process for product life cycle management through the supply chain.

Implemented RFID at Logansport facility in compliance with the Wal Mart top 200 RFID mandate.

Managed transition in 2003 and 2004 three acquisitions into the operations group including the relocation of a large scale packaging operation from Chicago to New Jersey. The companies were assimilated while maintaining product availability. Provided evaluation of the manufacturing capabilities of four additional acquisition candidates in this same time period.

Negotiate long term and short term service and supplies agreements for all operating units.

Thru this period managed an aggressive facility and process upgrade project to prepare us for production increases in the early too mid-90s. In addition to the project management role there were responsibilities for environmental compliance, security and day to day facility and process maintenance.
