Professional Experience

Microsoft Corporation – Redmond, Washington (2000 – 2016)

Treasury Controller (2012 – 2016)

Managed a staff of approximately 20 full time employees and 5 vendors responsible for the accounting and reporting for Microsoft’s Treasury Portfolio, business acquisitions and divestitures, and stock-based compensation.

oEstablished strong business partnerships with numerous groups within Microsoft including Treasury, Tax, Human Resources, Corporate Development and Legal.

oOversaw the accounting and reporting for Microsoft’s $100 billion Treasury portfolio and the research and accounting conclusions on new investments, hedging and derivative activities, debt offerings, and variable interest entities.

oPresented and explained Treasury results on a quarterly basis to the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Accounting Officer and Treasurer.

oOversaw the accounting and reporting for Microsoft’s business combinations including purchase price allocations, accounting consolidation of acquired entities and the integration of those entities with Microsoft’s policy and procedures.

oLed the equity controllership function, including stock-based compensation, share repurchase, dividends, and share dilution management. Interacted frequently with Human Resources, Tax and Legal in the development of new equity-based awards.

oDrove the process to replace the stock-based compensation reporting tool in order to create efficiencies and enhance the ability to track and account for new equity-based programs and equity-based awards created from business combinations.

oContinuously sought out as one of Microsoft’s top technical accounting talents to consult and opine on complex accounting issues outside the Treasury Controller space.

Senior Director, Financial Accounting and Reporting (2003 – 2012)

Responsible for Microsoft’s technical accounting including responding to complex GAAP issues. Interacted with and responded to accounting standard setters on numerous issues, including representing Microsoft at standard setters’ public roundtables and drafting Microsoft’s responses to SEC comment letters.

Director, SEC Reporting (2000-2003)

Responsible for preparing Microsoft’s 10-Q and 10-K filings. Participated in CEO/Audit Committee meetings for 10-Q/10-K review and provided consultation on GAAP questions. Helped establish a working relationship with the Financial Accounting Standards Board.

Financial Accounting Standards Board – Norwalk, Connecticut (1998 – 2000)

Industry Fellow

Responsibilities included coordinating the meetings of the Emerging Issues Task Force; acting as primary FASB contact for technical inquiries on foreign currency translation and revenue recognition; and participated on the Consolidations Policy Project Team and the Business Reporting Research Project Team.
