LTE MME with IBM As a System Engineer

LTE-MME (LTE:Long Term Evolution and MME : Mobility Management Entity ) is a software that acts as signaling entity between UE and core network. LTE (Long Term Evolution), also known as "3.9G"is the trademarked project name of a high performance air interface for cellular mobile telephony. MME: The Mobility Management Entity is the main signaling node in the EPC. It is responsible for initiating paging and authentications of the mobile device.NAS terminates at the MME and supports assignment and allocation of temporary UE identities and also support the following interfaces: S1-MME, S3, S6a, S10 and S11.

As a Team member I was involved in the following activities

TCP Optimization for ASN Gatewaywith Sasken Communication Technologies as a Software Engineer

Jan 2007 to Dec 2008.

Synopsis:

This project involves the enhancement of the TCP stack for the ASN Gateway. In a WIMAX environment and especially when the end user is mobile, the data loss and the delay are quite high. Because of the constraints of the normal TCP stack for having an end-to-end reliable data flow, the performance of the TCP stack comes down drastically in a WIMAX environment. In order to improve the performance, a TCP Split module is brought into the ASN Gateway which will break the end-to-end connection into 2 separate connections, one to handle the wireless side and other to handle the wired side. This implementation logically brings in to TCP stacks in the ASN Gateway to handle the connections on either side. To further optimize the performance, a few congestion algorithms were designed and plugged into the module, to take care of the scenarios involving high delay and high loss.
