Lab Experimentations

I have isolated and purified heat shock protein 60 from adult rat cardio-myocytes by following protein biochemistry techniques as collagenase perfusion of heart, isolating and culturing of myocytes, isolating cell organelles by differential centrifugation and performing electrophoresis, western blotting to purify proteins.

I have studied the mechanism of toxicity of Diquat, a pesticide and could be present in drinking water in minute amounts it is a redox cycling compound and cause damage to the body tissues by the generation of reactive oxygen species.

I have worked on Glutathione transferases, which are multifunctional enzymes providing protection to cells from toxic substances including carcinogens through several different activities. These enzymes could either catalytically or non- catalytically bind to toxic metabolites in the body rendering them inactive.

I have done extensive research to study the role of anti-oxidants in the prevention of breast cancer. I have studied the role of resveratrol, a polyphenol antioxidant found in grapes, in human brain, neuroblastoma, SH-SY5Y cell lines (ATCC-CRL-2266) subjected to oxidative stress.
