Project Name: Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR)

Sem- VIII

Description:

In ALPR system when a vehicle approaches a Toll Station the High Definition Cameras will acquire an image or sequence of images under different environmental conditions such as day-night, indoor-outdoor or low visibility etc. These images will be sent to the high-end computers for further processing. These images will be processed by OCR Algorithm with the help of Matlab Software to obtain characters i.e the license plate number from the image. This license plate number obtained from the OCR Algorithm will then be matched with both the database [1. Valid RTO database & 2. Stolen Vehicle Database] which includes millions of license plate numbers. If this extracted license plate number matches with the license number in the Valid RTO database then the Tax Amount will be deducted from the prepaid account linked to this particular license number. Also a Tax Deduction conformation message will be sent to the cell phone of the valid license holder. At the same the barriers will be opened so that the vehicle can proceed further without taking a halt at the Toll Station because all the processing steps will be completed within few milliseconds.

In case, if a Stolen vehicle approaches the Toll Station the Cameras will acquire the image and send it to the computer for further processing of OCR Algorithm. The OCR Algorithm will provide the license plate number extracted from that image. This license plate number will be matched with both the above mentioned databases. If the license plate number matches with the license number stored in the Stolen vehicle database which is submitted by the State Police Department then the barriers will remain closed and the buzzers will start ringing and at the same time a message will be sent to the nearest police station to take further actions.
