Strong cell and molecular biology techniques

Expertise in mammalian cell culture (uninfected and infected lines); experienced with primary cells

Maintenance, repair and calibration of various types of laboratory equipment (sterilization and water purification systems, microscopes, spectrophotometers, flow cytometer, laminar flow hoods and pumps, etc.)

Training of students, staff and faculty on equipment use and GLPs

Coordinated with EH&S department to ensure availability of spill clean-up kits as well as proper disposal and regular pickup of biohazardous wastes, animal carcasses, chemicals, sharps, broken glassware, etc.

Supervision of laboratory staff to ensure compliance with GLPs and OSHA standards as well as proper waste disposal

Laboratory ordering; inventory and SDS management of reagents and supplies

Interfacing with other departments (i.e. Facilities, Purchasing and Environmental Health and Safety) to prevent and/or resolve issues efficiently

Addressing employee concerns and resolving issues quickly to increase productivity

Planning/organizing daily, weekly and monthly laboratory operations to either solve issues or prevent them (e.g. monitoring equipment functionality, lab safety inspections, monitoring of routinely used supplies, environmental monitoring, etc.)

Knowledge of environmental conditions necessary for vivariums according to AAALAC standards for individual animals

Assigning specific duties/responsibilities to individual lab managers/technicians to increase efficiency/productivity and lower maintenance costs

Implementing, planning and facilitating monthly meetings among individual labs to increase communication and work flow

Analyzing daily laboratory operations and communicating with staff to determine where improvements can be made

Providing tours to companies, visitors and guests
