Began career as an Extrusion Tech at GE Plastics, advancing into Coordinator of Compounds. Attended many GE Management College classes that led to further career advancement into leadership roles.

Possess a strong technical knowledge of equipment, process, resins, additives and color formulation in prime, off-spec and any form of recycled (fiber, film, part, plops/drools, regrind) resins ASA, LCP, PPS, PA, PE, PPO, PC, PBT, PET, PEI, PLA, PP, PPO/PA, PC/ABS, PC/PET, PC/PBT with UV, FR, fillers and more.

Proactively pursue cost savings by resin consolidation along with setting certifications and requirements.

Experienced with obtaining agency approvals while qualifying resins UL, FDA, UV, heat aging, chemical testing and automotive. Designed a compounding facility for a startup company which included building and site specifications, location, infrastructure, utilities, environmental, State and Federal permits, PM maintenance and writing stand operating procedures.

Built, started up and managed three compounding / tolling / recycling facilities using twin, single, pin, cross head and melt pump extruders (screw, barrel, head and temperature design) and full test / development lab. 20+ years of “hands on” in all areas of Engineered Plastic Resins.

A significant amount of experience in the field of Operations and Consultant with OEM’s and their processors has enabled me to train and develop additional competencies in both quality systems and tools, and project management methods.

Senior Principle and Founder

Providing Plastics Resins expertise to clients on a global scale that have led to cost savings, increased revenues, purchasing and procurement efficiencies, strong commodity supplier relationships and provide technical training for design engineers and employees.

Client Project for a Startup Resins company: Led the design and build of a startup compounding facility for highly filled PA6, PA66 and PP resins. Facility was to have twin screw extrusion, full testing lab, dryers and molding. Hired and trained the staff on: safety, process, screw design, building screw elements, operations of all equipment, supporting systems, preventative maintenance, electrical and lab testing procedures.

Client Project: Created the formulation and processing of Engineered Plastics Resins (EPR) in prime or recycle base resin. Worked with recyclers on identifying resin, lab testing, procedures, processing, screw design, drying, blending and best equipment for process.

Client Project: Designed processing facilities and systems for processing recycled and prime plastics by sorting, shredding, grinding, drying, pulverizing (with Liquid Nitrogen), blending, screening, repackaging, testing and extruders into a finished hot or cold cut pellets or powders. Plastic part processing and assembly sealing, joining, painting, plating, in-mold labels, drying and other process related issues.

Client projects for two difference plastics companies: Representative (REP) provided business development services into OEMs selling Engineered Plastics Resin (EPR). Supported Marketing and Sales and provided Technical Specialist expertise. Generated $7 million in sales of EPR, getting OEM approvals (18-24 months) with automotive TS16949 and industrial ISO9001 working with distributors.

Developed marketing packages, supporting part design and engineering, established resin formulation specifications, developed training programs, wrote (SOP) processing guidelines, provided technical support in the field (PPAP’s) and material trials.

Formulated master-batch packages that helped put recycle back into molded products. Handled technical assistance on mold design, drying, processing and plastic coatings (including plating with Stokes, VTI and Lybold) in regions of Canada, U.S. and Mexico.

OPERATIONS MANAGER - B&M PLASTICS OF NY, INC.; SCHENECTADY, NY - 1991-1999

Designed, built and started up plastics Tolling facility as requested by GE Plastics Selkirk, NY.

•Initially a tolling facility; introduced EPR product lines diversifying toll business, into a branded product lines with 25% growth of total annual sales.

•Established 5 year business plan with marketing, sales, TDS, SDS, brochures and agency approvals.

•Sourced raw materials in prime, post-consumer (PCR), off-spec and aged inventory using domestic and international supply with a minimum of 3 suppliers.

•Supply required initially developing min./max. physical requirements of JIT incoming feed stock, then growing relationships with suppliers who could repeatedly meet the requirements while keeping a close eye on market indicators for chemical and plastics index pricing.

•Led a team of 67 people, hiring, training, developing abilities and responsibilities.

•Fine Grinding (including Cryogenics or liquid nitrogen) Pulverizing plastics and rubbers 8 to 200 mesh

•Size reduction Shear, Shred, Grind, Pulverizing (nano-technology using liquid nitrogen) and classification (Screening).

•Blending (many types; what type and why depends on materials and additives)

•De-metalizing (bar magnets rare earth before sensor metal separators)

•Compounding on single, pin, cross head and twin screw. Screw design, loss-in-weight (K-Tron) feeders.

•Produced small and large lots EPR in custom color, Flame retardant, UV, highly filled, UL, etc.

•Resin types: LCP, PA6, PA66, PPO, HIPS, ASA, PC, PP, ABS, Acrylic, PLA and there alloys.

•Developed EPR product line with trade names. Including Lab development of EPR grade formulation with min./max. specifications, custom color with UL, ISO and OEM approvals.

•Packaging super sack, Gaylord (bulk box), bagging (nozzle or heat seal foil lined)

Tolling main customers: GE Plastics, DuPont, Ticona, Allied Signal, Fina Oil & Chemical and many brokers.

OPERATIONS MANAGER - RECYCLING FACILITY, COMPLETE PLASTICS; SCHENECTADY, NY 1992-1995

Toll processor of plastic scrap like: plops, drools or parts and off speck resins.

Oversaw day to day operations that included the following:

•Sorting tables for truckloads of plastic materials, Identified by resin type and color (color sort materials to go - black, white, red, blue, gray, etc.) for highest value.

•Shearing and grinding

•Screening (gravity or mechanical with bushes or balls)

•Initially a partner with B&M Plastics of NY, Inc. but a takeout attempt in 1994 ended relationship.

COORDINATOR - COMPOUNDING, GE PLASTICS; SELKIRK, NY 1975-1991

Extrusion tech, Blending tech, QC Tech, Color Lab Tech, then Shiftleader/Forman (at age 21) Color Lab / Small Lots and last Coordinator (at age 23). The manufacturing of GE Plastics products including Noryl, GTX, Geloy, Lexan, Cycoloy, Valox and Ultem resins (ASA, acrylic, HIPS, PA, PPO, PC, PBT, PET, PEI, PVC, PC/ABS, PC/PET, PC/PBT and some I forgot). Compounding included reactive (GTX) and alloying on extruder types: twin, single, pin, cross head and mechanical mixer. Developed engineered plastic resins specifications on reactive, alloying, colorant, blending, small lots and quality. Recycle specialist introducing 25% recycle in engineered resin grades. Wrote SOP for ISO approval, lead process mapping and trained as black belt. Regularly attended GE management college (now – John F Welch Leadership Center) in Crotonville, NY which in 2012 ranked #3 in the world for best top executive training. In 1986 designed, built and started up “Small Lots” facility with 5 - 58mm Co-Rotational Coperion with K-Tron feeders, liquid injection, blending, packaging and testing lab with a 24/7 self-directed workforce.
