Project Title: Centralized Group Production Support

Title: Senior Project Manager

The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), is one of the largest and oldest mutual life insurance companies in the United States. Guardian and its subsidiaries are committed to protecting individuals, business owners and their employees with life, long term care insurance, disability income, medical and dental insurance products, and offer 401(k), annuities and other financial products and trust services.

The purpose of the project is to provide Production support for various Group Insurance applications for GLIC. These applications include complex Billing systems, Claims processing, Workflow, EDI processing and Rating. There are many components which run in near real time and the Batch consists of Daily/Weekly/Monthly etc Job cycles. Technology stack consists for Mainframe, .NET, Java, Tibco applications. Project is Onsite/Offshore model with teams providing round the clock Oncall support. Project also involves solving Production defects/enhancements as prioritized by business. ETL processing and Business objects support is also part of centralized share services.

Role:

Managing 7 Onsite and 20 Offshore resources to provide efficient production support.

Delivering complex projects as part of enhancements in a cross functional, matrixed environment

Developed and maintained agile Kanban board and facilitated daily standup meetings.

Project Title: Renewal System Consolidation

Title: Senior Application Designer/Manager

The purpose of the project was to build a new consolidated renewal system which incorporated the new improved business process for renewal of group policy for non-medical cases. In addition to having many features of the current system; it provided a single comprehensive integrated renewal system to manage individual as well as block level renewal.

The project was divided in various phases which included analysis of current system, reviewing the detailed business requirements and developing technical design documents. Development phases involved coding complex Cobol/DB2 modules which would run in Batch or within a COBOL DB2 Stored procedure. Front end is developed in ASP.net and all data access to mainframe is handled via COBOL DB2 Stored procedures.

Role:

Analyze detailed business requirement documents and involve business in JAD sessions.

Creating detailed technical design document and logical database model.

Design Physical Database table structures for holding various formula calc results.

Develop complex COBOL/DB2 modules (Batch, stored procedures) which will be called from ASP front end to perform the various formula calculations.
