October 2014

The University of São Paulo (USP) is a global research powerhouse. Brazil’s largest and most prestigious public university, USP produces more doctorate degrees annually than any other university in the world and ranks fifth in the number of scientific articles published. Relentless dedication to advancing research in all areas of knowledge and accelerating the time to discovery have helped USP become one of the world’s leading research institutions. With 150 disparate IT environments, the university struggled to meet service levels and coordinate backups across its massive and complex environment. IT costs were rising, and individual organizations could not scale quickly enough to support the growing capacity and performance requirements of their users. To maintain its prominence among the world’s most competitive and innovative institutions, USP needed a fast and flexible IT infrastructure that could stay a step ahead of users’ needs. http://www.netapp.com/us/company/customer-stories/usp.aspx NetApp Insight 2014

ACS in Brazilian Academic Market

Apache CloudStack Collaboration Conference, Dublin October 8, 2015 Cloud computing strategies were started in many markets around the world, as an example we have Cyrano Rizzo's team, they are responsible by the largest of the Apache CloudStack installation in Latin America, in this section the attendees will see the strategy of main Brazilian academic institutions over the Apache CloudStack, this strategy involved some investments to delivery the country academic needs, such as: authentication based Federated Academic Community (SAML2 plugin), advanced routing based in OSPF and BGP (Routed VPC) and quota service to limit the different tenants. Also it will be possible to keep up with information about the advance of Apache CloudStack in academic institutes in Brazil. The experience of the operation and maintenance of a cloud service IaaS RNP, Brasilia August 24, 2015

“The CIO of the University of São Paulo (USP), Cyrano Rizzo, explained how to operate the USP Cloud, private infrastructure and based on open standards, which is now three years old. "The implementation started in mid-2012, it took 50 professionals. The first virtual machine went into operation in three minutes. It was a holiday in São Paulo, one person received e-mail and was able to quickly set up the machine. It showed us that the tool was easy to use, "he reported. ‘Supporting the demand is the greatest concern today. The Cloud USP was a success, because we are operating at 86% of our capacity. The operation was not a problem, since the user interacts directly with the portal and act as consultants, maintenance is very costly to update templates and virtualization systems,’ said Rizzo, who also said that the service is integrated into the academic community Federated (CAFe), ‘So, any member can log into our portal natively’.”
