STANLEY CONSULTANTS (June 1999 to June 2004)

Chicago, IL

ELECTRICAL DESIGNER

Outdoor Lighting Design; William Rainey Harper College; Palatine, IL

Served as Electrical Designer. This project replaced all outdoor lighting for William Rainey Harper College. Metal Halide lighting was installed for all outdoor lighting. Lighting for the parking lots, roadways, walkways, and decorative building fixtures were installed as part of a campus-wide lighting plan. State of the art lighting control system was installed to allow central user to turn individual circuits on and off as needed. A control network with a fiber backbone was installed between power distribution points in preparation for future building automation system upgrades. In a progressive move, the project also installed Wi-Fi antennas and security cameras on poles throughout the campus and tied them back into the campus intranet via fiber lines.

Ground Transportation Management Office Relocation; City of Chicago, O'Hare International Airport; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer to provide a coordinated design for the plumbing, fire protection, Heating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and electrical, communication and lighting systems for the Ground Transportation Management Office and Landside Office Relocation at O’Hare International Airport. Prepared an evaluation of the existing systems in order to determine the systems needed to meet the requirements of the new office facility. Evaluated load calculations including load changes due to the new occupancy and the electronic equipment for the new Automatic Vehicle Identification (AVI) Control System that will be used by the Ground Transportation Office. Conducted interactions with the Department of Aviation and other city departments that were involved with the project and incorporated comments from these interactions into the final design.

Cargo Tunnel Lighting Project; City of Chicago, O'Hare International Airport; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer for the design of a new lighting system for the Cargo Tunnel at O'Hare International Airport. The 1,500' tunnel is a critical tunnel connecting the south portion of the airport to the main central terminals. The lighting system was designed to IES RP-22 standards and included over 800 luminaries. In addition to the lighting system design, Stanley Consultants also designed the power distribution system from an existing switchboard and a lighting enclosure. The lighting system also included a ductbank to protect the circuits. The controls for the lighting allowed the lighting system to turn the lights on and off in phases so a driver would not be surprised by an increase or decrease in lighting. The lighting was controlled by photocells at each end of the tunnel. A phasing scheme was designed to keep the existing lighting system operating while the new system was installed, as well as a traffic control scheme to keep the traffic flowing during construction. The tunnel was also designated to be cleaned and painted. All existing systems (fire alarm, air monitoring, etc.) were protected and maintained during construction.

ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

Electrical System Study; City of Chicago, O'Hare International Airport; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer for study of the basic distribution backbone system operating at 34.5 kV and consisting of supply feeders, network centers, electrical service stations, and three on-site substations.

Nabisco Biscuit Company; Chicago, IL

Control Systems Designer responsible for design of new underground 12.47 kV service, using existing 12.47 kV overhead lines as back-up, through an automatic transfer switch (ATO) with additions to the 480 V switchboard for new load requirements.

INDUSTRIAL/INSTITUTIONAL CAMPUS UTILITIES

Boiler Installation Design; Confidential Industrial Client

Served as Electrical Designer for the design to add two new package boilers (310,000 lb/hr total capacity) to an existing steam plant. New boilers replaced two coal boilers of smaller footprint requiring considerable layout and engineering challenges. Design required removing four interior building columns and designing structural transfer beam support system, replacement of part of the operating floor and considerable structural steel framing. The project included significant piping, insulation, ductwork and equipment for the boilers, and related systems as well as electrical design and controls system integration with the existing plant systems. The high pressure (850 psig) boiler feedwater system was completely

rearranged and repiped. The project was a fast track effort with less than one year scheduled from project initiation to boilers operational.

Lewis Towers Heating Plant Design; Loyola University; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer for the design to add steam boilers to a high rise building. The building received steam from another building which was to be demolished. Project involved considerable layout and modification within a 1920s vintage building with limited space. Project added three compact footprint 120 boiler hp steam boilers, two 1 MMBtu/hr hot water heaters with associated equipment at the rooftop penthouse area, and a replacement rooftop 250 ton cooling tower. A new building VFD domestic water pumping system and electric water heater was added in the basement. The project included all associated piping, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, structural, and architectural work including a small build out to house the boilers.

South Campus Distribution Expansion; Illinois State University; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer for design of 12 kV expansion of primary distribution system throughout the campus. The design includes expansion of approximately 1800 ft of 12 kV duct bank, and installation of six manholes, three 12 kV switchgear, and two 12 kV-480 V 500 KVA transformers.

Electrical Power Study; Illinois State University; Chicago, IL

Served as Electrical Designer for this evaluation of existing 12 kV primary campus power distribution system for additional load requirements for future campus expansion based on the campus master plan. The study evaluated the current KW load demand of the 12 kV distribution system for the campus and additional KW requirements for future expansion versus 12 kV substation capacity, and made recommendations for improvements.
