SENIOR HARDWARE SYSTEMS ENGINEER

Solutions-oriented, budget and deadline accomplished Electrical Engineer with 16+ years of hands-on analog, mixed signal, and digital experience geared towards creating innovative, cost-efficient designs.

Solid expertise in developing and adapting electronics boards and systems from design/simulation of circuits (with selected components), based on customer system requirements.

Broad knowledge in the development and integration of electrical communication systems with underwater acoustic (piezoelectric) elements, including repeated success meeting customer needs with previously unrealized technologies.

Superior circuit debugging, problem-solving, and time-management abilities; adept at identifying root cause of issues and implementing creative, targeted solutions in mixed signal / embedded systems.

Team oriented (but able to work independently) with effective communication and presentation skills as a Project Engineer Lead, able to coordinate with management, vendors, and staff to achieve goals. TECHNICAL PROFICIENCIES

Software: Altium Schematic Capture and Layout, LabVIEW, LT Spice, MATLAB, MPLAB, MS Project, MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), TI WEBENCH, Verilog Research & Design: Project / Quantification Planning, ISO & Safety Compliance, 1st Article Design Qualification and Production Board and System Test Development, Design & Validation, Manufacturing Specifications

Hardware Tools: Arbitrary Waveform Generator, Impedance Meter, JTAG Emulator, Logic Analyzer, Mixed Signal Oscilloscope, Spectrum Analyzer, True RMS Multimeter PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

STEINER EOPTICS, INC. – Monterey, California

Senior Electrical Engineer in New Product Development Group, 1/2016 – Present Design battery-powered, laser and LED illuminator drive circuits to be used in gun-mounted aiming and light illuminating modules for military, law enforcement, and commercial customers. Coordinate with suppliers / vendors and internal engineering resources to obtain prototype parts and equipment; define functional, dimensional, and cost requirements for electronic components and circuits. Evaluate and demonstrate manufacturing feasibility and technical justification for design approach; conduct design validation. Maintain comprehensive documentation of complex design activities.

Devised an innovative way of activating a laser/illuminator module mounted on muzzle end of a large firearm, thru remote wireless means, with a separate module mounted near trigger of firearm; creating a product from this invention would address a need brought up by existing customers. Championed patenting of idea along with feasibility report, ROM budget, and optimal Project Gantt Chart schedule.

Conceived, designed, and prototyped the redesign of an existing laser/illuminator product, resulting in 33% augmentation in LED luminosity while maintaining the same battery life at a lower cost per board. JELANI GIVNER

PAGE TWO

Developed a test fixture to simplify the testing of a board suite for a present product. The one-of-a-kind fixture was reliable enough to test 2500 board sets and not have much production down-time. This saved the company money by not having to pay the board house or another company to develop a test apparatus and/or test the board set when kicking off the production run.

Spearheaded several manufacturing process improvements to reduce board-level failure rates, including: using a ground fault monitor and ground strap tester on all production floor benches with ESD sensitive materials, applying a thin layer of conformal coating to all boards prior to installation, and adding more in-depth board testing to better isolate sources of failures . SONATECH INC. / CHANNEL TECHNOLOGIES GROUP– Santa Barbara, California Electrical Engineer in Systems Group, 4/2002 – 1/2016 Designed tuning, filter, power supply, relay control, and amplifier circuits on underwater acoustic navigation systems at frequencies between 7kHz and 500kHz. Customers included the Navy, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin. Developed automated and succinct board/system procedures and test fixtures to maximize production effectiveness. Assumed engineering lead for several projects, maintaining budgets and coordinating tasks with teammates. Teamed with senior engineers to prototype circuits in development; conducted project / qualification planning for each prototype. Provided technical input for design documentation of new products utilizing detailed technical drawings and engineering specifications.

Enabled 8-10 dB increase in output source level for new product line of digital acoustic transponders by designing, prototyping, testing, and establishing higher and more effective gain control circuitry.

Contributed to development of more accurate acoustic Penetrometer system for tight budgeted Navy project, leading to significantly increased accuracy in determining consistency of ocean floor. SONATECH INC. / CHANNEL TECHNOLOGIES – Santa Barbara, California Jr. Electrical Engineer, 4/2000 – 4/2002

Integral to design of test fixtures for new and upgraded boards/systems on several sonar and navigation projects. Analyzed performance of present products and identified inefficiencies. Interfaced with production managers, engineers, and project managers in designing, prototyping, and testing new circuits that reduce some of these inefficiencies. Composed technical specifications and design drawings.

Offered major contributions to three-year product line overhaul plan, submitting multiple schematics of redesigned circuits for peer review and validation; concept accepted and integrated into final rollout. EDUCATION & CREDENTIALS

Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), 2000 CALIFORNIA POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY SLO San Luis Obispo, California Professional Development:

~ Filed a Patent (Application #62/337,750) for “Wireless Control of a Firearm Accessory Using Ultrasonic Communication” with myself being the sole inventor of the intellectual property. Member: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
