Engineer/Department Head (Engineering)
Engineer/Department Head responsible for the engineering/designs of all projects within the office. Engineer/Department Head led a team of engineers in the complete design and layout of surface and underground mining projects. This includes the design of drainage systems within the mine to assure water control, as well as to avoid impacts in the surrounding communities. Prepare underground mine projections. Prepare volumetric reports and mine models to balance ratios. Duties also include mapping and design of roads to include excavation reports, grade requirements, and drainage. Prepare reserve calculations for anticipated coal recovery during mining activities. Prepare blasting plans and residential inventories as well as coordination with surrounding mines for blasting activities. Routinely perform “previous mining” research to locate existing surface mining structures and abandoned deep mine facilities. Routinely generate post mining configurations for reforestation or to incorporate light industry/commercial/recreational use. Responsible for generating cost estimates for projects and time oriented budget sheets. Duties include contact with client and state/government agencies for coordination to insure accuracy and timely approval. Engineering Department was responsible for the design and approval of surface/deep mines in West Virginia as well as additions to the mines to ensure continuation of mining activities within their facilities. Office duties included managing project budgets, monthly expense reports, staff time cards and available billing, and team oversight.

Advising Enrichment Center/Teaching Assistant/Advisor Duties included teaching Solid Edge/AutoCAD/Finite Analysis classes to junior/senior classman. As the advisor to the enrichment center, I continually monitored student GPAs and education programs to ensure students would not be placed in academic probation. Duties also include being in charge of all incoming student engineers to place them properly in planned courses and help guide them toward their anticipated degree and post college job.
